Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
I have a great copy of the Original 1956 Elvis TV guide with Elvis on the front. I was thinking about putting it on ebay and did a search. I found that it had been reprinted and looks exactly the same. Is there a copyright date on the inside cover or something..
Here is the question - how can you tell an Original TV Guide (Sept 8-15 1956) with Elvis from the one they reprinted??
Very Curious -

Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
Very good question because I had to learn the hard way. Someone ripped me off, only to find out later it was the re-print.Ultimx wrote:I have a great copy of the Original 1956 Elvis TV guide with Elvis on the front. It says "reproduction" or something like that on the inside page where the contents are if I recall. Very small and hard to spot.

Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
Thanks for that reply - does anyone have a photo of it with the (reproduction) visible. My copy is so good it has me a maybe a little worried.. it does not say reprint anywhere on the inside cover though...I also got it about 8 years ago and I am not sure when the reprint came out.ekenee wrote:Very good question because I had to learn the hard way. Does it "Feel" like a 1956 magazine?Ultimx wrote:I have a great copy of the Original 1956 Elvis TV guide with Elvis on the front. I was thinking about putting it on ebay and did a search. Surely you can tell the difference between an original 1956 magazine and a copy!
Any sign that the paper is old? That's a sure sign!

Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
I will check.. again - I didnt see anything like reprint etc on it.
As far as the book itself... feels very very fragile and smells like old paper etc..Kinda like an old book would smell. I am 90% sure this is authentic - I was just double checking and wanted to make sure before I even thought about putting it up for sale. What does this go for these days anyways??
thanks for all the help and posts..

Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
Yes Doctor but that is a reprint as the ad states.
The reprint will go for anywhere from $5-10.
A near mint original version will go for $50-70.

Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
you'll be amazed how many original copies
of that particular 56 issue survived. Now try
for the ones with just the Dorsey and Berle
show listings... Much harder to locate.
Before the days of ebay, some of the more
rare 50s Elvis related magazines could fetch
up to a hundred or more... and I mean 'real'
dollars, 3 times the value of today.
Those days are long gone. The same goes for
most of the 50s Elvis vinyl. Value has dropped
big time. For example, the 45s such as the
ones from november 55 till september 56
can be bought for half the price they sold
for, say 10 years ago.

True, because a ton more fans bought that issue because he was on the cover.TALLHAIR 2 wrote:you'll be amazed how many original copies

A real find would be a listing for the Roy Orbison tv show in a local texas TV guide that has a guest listed as Elvis Presley.
That would be cool. Or even the TV listing for the show he did with Jimmy Dean, In Wash. DC.
Re: Elvis 1956 TV Guide Question..
He 'dropped' in on the Dean Show, didn't he?
Sorta like a last minute thing...? TV Guide was
printed in advance, finding notice of Elvis on
Dean's Show that week is highly unlikely, imo.
Probably the same goes for the local Orbison
tv show?
