Having recently purchased the DVD "The Highway Men Live", recorded in 1990 at Long Islands Nassau Coliseum, I got to thinking, if Elvis would have lived would he have collaborated with these country giants ? Johnny Cash,Kris Krisofferson,Waylon Jennings And Willie Nelson
Each artists sings 4/5 of their well known hits, the stand outs for me being Kristofferson's Help Me Make It Thro The Night & Me & Bobby McGhee And Cash's Big River
If it did happen which Presley songs would suit the genre of their live performance ?
For what its worth, here's my 5
T-R-O-U-B-L-E
I Really Don't Want To Know
Faded Love
Funny How Time Slips Away
I Washed My Hands In Muddy Waters
I couldn't really think of any Presley "hits" which had the Country Rock flavour
Any body any thoughts
Elvis & The Highwaymen ?

Not as a member of the Highwaymen. He was bigger than that.xjrsport wrote:... would he have collaborated with these country giants ?

Re: Elvis & The Highwaymen ?
They could have been his warm-up act instead of the Sweets and Jackie.
Even though I like Cash and Kristofferson - Elvis was way much bigger than they together. Actually there was a universe between them. I can hardly see the worlds greatest artist cutting five tunes as a part of a program. The crowd would have gone berserk. Actually it would in a way have been a return to his Hayride days and I think that Elvis considered those days far behind him.

Re: Elvis & The Highwaymen ?
Depending on where his career path would have gone post-1977, a collaboration similar to the Highwaymen would not have been out of the question as a vehicle for an artistic rebirth. Had Elvis survived August 1977, his career would have to have withstood the aftermath of "Elvis: What Happened?" and "Elvis In Concert" along with a lackluster recording career. Could Tom Parker have salvaged it?
Had Elvis regained his health and was able to sever ways with Tom Parker, a rebuilding project would have been necessary. Elvis' career could certainly have benefited from the right scenario. Look at The Traveling Wilburys - legends collaborating.
As the Doc points out, Elvis was bigger than most, but his career definitely needed a boost and the right collaboration could have been a start.

Re: Elvis & The Highwaymen ?
although in my own opinion Elvis was too big a star to appear as part of the highwaymen, they were a great group and a pleasure for this poster to see them live in concert, also did some great albums
