There was one Elvis single where, of the 1,400,000 that were initially distributed in the US, 500,000 were returned unsold.
Which single was it, and why was it so disappointing for all concerned ?

Colin -
The single was Stuck On You, and it was disappointing because it wasn't the raucous rocker the fans were hoping for.

And, of course, his first newly recorded single for 2 years !
As his 'comeback' record after military service, it was hoped [& expected] that it would be a smash hit !
It did reach No.1, but sales fell short of expectations.
This disappointment was short-lived, however, as he soon followed up with the biggies: It's Now Or Never, Are You Lonesome Tonight & Surrender !

Strange that Stuck On You was a disappointment, because it wasn't a racuos rocker, but the next three you mention which were smashes were also along the same lines, or slower.

Well, those were Pete's words not mine.minni1 wrote:Strange that Stuck On You was a disappointment, because it wasn't a racuos rocker, but the next three you mention which were smashes were also along the same lines, or slower.
The disappointment I was referring to was the sales figure, considering it was his 'comeback' single.
