it is far from proved imo - the resemblance is hardly conclusive - not a tall

It's been an incredible thread, regardless! Thanks to all of involved as we go about getting verification on whether this is the great Clyde McPhatter or not!

Kevin, where have you been? Those are great photos.
Do you know exactly when or where they were taken?
kevinstevenage wrote:There is in my opinion absolutely no resemblance to the gentleman standing next to Elvis.
Actually the many similarities remain quite evident, but your photos are actually the first piece of evidence I have seen that throws some doubt onto this subject.
It still boils down to two questions:
(1) Is that
Clyde McPhatter?
(2) If not,
who in God's name is it??

well i tell you what i have listened to 4 versions of this show and without any doubt this FTD is the BEST 1970's show i have heard for the sound mix- EVERY TRACK sounds brilliant here and would turn a non fan into an Elvis Fan because this releasze is such an enjoyable CD!

I took the liberty of emailing a huge Clyde McPhatter fan and got this reply:-
I have seen that video and watched it several times. I am not 100% sure if it is Clyde or not
Oh and for the record yeah i enjoyed this post and yeah personally i think it is Clyde, not 100% certain but the bridge of the nose and the bent shape etc plus other striking facial features make me decide yes
One last thing-isnt it really sad that this man had his last LP out in 1970 and it didnt chart
And Clyde passed away just 20 or so months after this after show party
He looked normal and healthy in this
What a strange world Elvis lived in,people burning themselves up fast etc
What a talent R.I.P

Just found that Clyde McPhatter moved to England in the late 1960's and stayed there for around 3 years
he performed to enthusiastic audiences of US service personnel based in the uk
Not saying he wasnt in Las Vegas during Aug 1970 though

Well looking at the footage again im certain Elvis shakes hands with him and calls him 'Ellis' and im certain Elvis doesnt know who he is cause just before the handshake someone introduces 'Ellis' to Elvis.

Has anyone noticed, in these latest pictures of McPhatter, he is wearing, shall we call them Elvis sideburns.....
Who stole from who.....???
Style of the times tho,...of course.
Anyway, it would appear by looking at these pictures, McPhatter did change over the years,..... slightly, but changed just the same...One can now see, that the odds that McPhatter is with Elvis, August the 10th, 1970, is slim...
My guess, in regard's to the comment made by the gentlemen talking to Elvis, he was just a nervous guy who wanted to come up with something different or funny to say to him, and so, suggesting to Elvis, that he had done all his moves,...it was basically just a joke from a nervous man, in my opinion.
This does not say that the guy wasn't a entertainer, because, the odds are that he was, just that sadly it would appear, he is not McPhatter.
As suggested earlier, Jimmy Velvet felt he had seen the fellow before, so let's hope when I am able to get intouch with Jimmy again, he may beable to come up with, who that fellow is in the picture.
In the mean time, I just sent off the email to EPE tonight, requesting their help in the matter. Let's cross our fingers and hope they are willing to help with a list as to who attended the party or are, at least willing to come up with the name of this person.
Thank you for the photos kevinstevenage you really helped out this thread,.
I looked forever on the net and came up dry on anything on McPhatter in the 70's.
I can only guess, kevinstevenage you are the first to post these pictures of McPhatter on the net, thanks again.

Surely one of the Sweets would know if it was Clyde McPhatter. Also, was he seated in the showroom during the movie?

I believe they are 1970, and I am researching it further to get a date and what the photos were from ... I hope this has been of some help.
Kevin, thank you. Your kind and intelligent input is greatly appreciated. Those are superb-quality photos I have never seen anywhere else. If you have anything more to offer on this topic, I welcome it.
For now, though, I'm sticking with it being Clyde, along with Lacker, Fike, Jorgensen and several other members of this forum who have offered their generous insight.

Doesn't look like Clyde to me ( WHAT a singer ) but has some resemblances to Ben E King from some angles.

It seems that, after 8 months of 'searching' Speedoo had the answer [to who it
isn't] all along on page one of this very thread.

There's no resemblance, really, to the great Ben E. King. I wish there was, then this topic could be considered done.

Yes, it does -- poor Clyde was a bit sad to be losing his hair.
