Even though I cannot say if I liked the song when it was released (I was one year old back then), I can say that I like it today. It may not be one of Elvis' best songs, but it's still nice to listen to it. It sounds really like the 1970's and I really believe that Elvis would have sold more records during the last few years if he had recorded more songs of this kind. It's just the kind of song DJs play on the radio. Moody Blue sounds happy and upbeat and stands in some kind of contrast to a lot of the other songs Elvis recorded at the time.

The live version sounds more like a rehearsal in front of an audience than a proper performance. But nevertheless it worked and if Elvis had sung it a few times more he could have added a contemporary song to his by then outdated set list. Together with Hurt, Danny Boy and Unchained Melody it would have been a nice update of his concert programme.
