Re: elvis on tour - why was there not a offical lp
Sessions III has the artwork, it was to be an all live 4-72 LP. Perhaps there was an idea to have it as Carr and Farrren listed initally, but by the time the cover was printed that had changed..

It is surprising that RCA did not use a shot from Omaha or Rapid City for the "Elvis In Concert" soundtrack album.drjohncarpenter wrote:I can name only one live disc that is "correct," since 1956!FrankieRider2 wrote:Not that many of Elvis' albums were "photographically correct".... or current either, for that matter.

Not really, to me at least. They did about as good as they could do for that release, IMO. The 1975 shot they used was about as far back as they could have went for the cover and been anywhere near "current". It was a pretty nice package considering what they had to work with at the time.midnightx wrote:It is surprising that RCA did not use a shot from Omaha or Rapid City for the "Elvis In Concert" soundtrack album.drjohncarpenter wrote:I can name only one live disc that is "correct," since 1956!FrankieRider2 wrote:Not that many of Elvis' albums were "photographically correct".... or current either, for that matter.

I was joking - obviously the 1975 shot was a better choice.FrankieRider2 wrote:Not really, to me at least. They did about as good as they could do for that release, IMO. Hey, those June 1977 shows beg for a proper release. Some here would walk off a 200-foot cliff blindfolded, and their shirt tails on fire, for a copy on CD or DVD.midnightx wrote:I was joking - obviously the 1975 shot was a better choice.

Well, sorry.... the irony was so thick there that I couldn't even see it.midnightx wrote: I was joking - obviously the 1975 shot was a better choice.
Doc, stop it please.... I'm dying over here. Besides, I have had my shirt tail on fire before in the past.... and it is a highly overrated experience.

This would have been a better shot for the "Elvis In Concert" album cover, it would have summed up things nicely:drjohncarpenter wrote:Hey, those June 1977 shows beg for a proper release. OK, now we're getting somewhere! Here's a mock-up:midnightx wrote:This would have been a better shot for the "Elvis In Concert" album cover, it would have summed up things nicely:
Can anyone add the text? Where is Lew Nyack when you need him?
Maybe FTD can use this idea when they reissue the complete June 19 and 21, 1977 gigs.

Dead right! End of story!FrankieRider2 wrote:It is my understanding that the "SRO" album.... which was also, I believe, the original working title for EOT.... was shuttered at the last minute in favor of the MSG recording(s) to try and capitalize on the historic NYC shows. RCA even reused the same cover art from the abandoned SRO album.... which accounts for the incorrect photo on front of the MSG album.

Do you think there's a SB of May 29, 1977?Joe Car wrote:You guys are really a hoot, perhaps it's time to invest in some newer material!

I hope so. How incredible would it be to have all the songs Sherrill Nielsen, Kathy Westmoreland, Voice and the Stamps performed in Elvis' absence in top-notch sound quality? This would be a killer FTD release!drjohncarpenter wrote:Do you think there's a SB of May 29, 1977?Joe Car wrote:You guys are really a hoot, perhaps it's time to invest in some newer material!

Hey PEP, how long are you going to let this crap continue, because it's certainly not an isolated incident!midnightx wrote:I hope so. Hey Joe, I happen to be a big Nielsen fan, what is wrong with that? He had a beautiful high falsetto and a stunning sense of fashion. What is wrong with wanting a concert released on FTD that showcases some of the finer moments of Elvis' backing vocalists?Joe Car wrote:Hey PEP, how long are you going to let this crap continue, because it's certainly not an isolated incident!midnightx wrote:I hope so. Re: elvis on tour - why was there not a offical lp
What about FTD releasing a CD just featuring the contributions made to the Elvis shows by Sherill, Kathy, Voice, Stamps etc without Elvis? Such an historically essential release would quickly become FTD's biggest seller yet.midnightx wrote:Hey Joe, I happen to be a big Nielsen fan, what is wrong with that? Even better - make it a double CD.
With a book (no need for Elvis in any pictures).

What is truly sinister is why the name change, from "Sherrill" to "Shaun."midnightx wrote:Sinister? Haven't you ever seen the man in a cheap jumpsuit? The dude had style and charisma.Joe Car wrote:For some reason, I sense something sinister in your response!

Bingo right on the mark! The album was going to be called "Standing Room Only" but got cancelled because of the Garden lp.
