Bad Sounding Good Show V Good Sounding Bad Show??

hi, i was wondering which of these shows you would prefer?? i mean, would you get a show from 26th August 1970 with horrible sound or would you rather get the 19th June(thanks for pointing it out  ) 1977 with good sound?? i would always pick a good show with bad sound over a good sounding show where Elvis sleep-walks through the whole hour, i think that you can always overlook the problem of the sound if its a good show but if its got good sound it 'brings out' the poor show more, hope you understand me.

sooo.... which show would you have???????????

thanks
Ben

For me there is a line and generally speaking this is drawn at audience recordings. The only one in my possession is the FTD “New Years Eve”. Personally it would have to be a significant historically important show such as the real opening show from Vegas ’69 or perhaps an FTD treatment of Elvis’ final live performance. Outside of this I believe a lot of Elvis’ great performances have been captured thankfully first on multitrack and second on soundboards (which admittedly don’t get listened to that often due to the reduced sound quality).

I've been here for years and am still learning. I didn't even know there was a tour in July 1977.

Too many variables really. Depends how "bad" the bad sound is.

Unlike a lot of "collectors" on here, I seem to have a broader tolerance for such things, and I would take an interesting show (like say Atlanta June '76 closing) over a run of the mill 72-74 show in better sound.

I have more than enough "standard" shows in various qualities to satisfy my listening desires, but can always find time to enjoy Elvis in a "surprise" show. Chaos In Colege Park spent lots of time in my player - decent sound, but more important for me a real surprise. Same for Big Boss In Trouble this weekend. Had low expectations of the SHOW (irrespective of who produced the CD), but was struck by how up Elvis was and how the crowd responded !! Most of the summer in '76 we are treated to a bored Elvis (or half asleep), so I would put this one in my player before reaching for the great sounding DAE or Baxter or Luxor Cds from the same period.

But hey, that's just my view, not the gospel.

You'd be amazed the things you can learn from an MB like this one, if you keep your eyes open !

I think the better the sound of a show the more it is rated..and the other way round...
But indeed there are many bad sounding good shows...
..hell..many Vegas 1970 shows....if only the sound was better...

Thanks to Ernst Joergensen, Roger Semon and Erik Rasmussen for the great work. Keep the spirit alive !

as far as I know there is no 26 aug. 1970 concert circulating in collector's circles; the horrible concert you have may be wrong dated.

for 19 july 1977 is a type error and I understand that you mean 19 june 1977??.

you must see it like this that very decade / time period has its own charm with restrictions; don't forget the bore dom of being a superstar with all kind of servants around you.

this was just an example of a show( the first date that came to my head that i know he played on that date when he was 'in top form')

Unless it bears some kind of significance, like the disaster at College Park on September 27, 1974, there is no reason to pursue anything other than good -- or better -- Elvis performances.

For example, if July 31, 1969 OS or February 25, 1961 AS or August 31, 1957 popped up in poor quality, I would nab them in a hot minute, whereas a deluxe soundboard from August 1976 would exact a yawn, and a slot on the "get when time permits" list.

You don't have "Live at Libertyland? It runs about 90 minutes.
