Thank You Keith Flynn
I checked out your site and saw the Complete Mississippi - Alabama Fair & Dairy Show Footage I remember being there and watching this when i was a 10 year old kid. This brought back so many memories its hard for me to imagine seeing this now 50 years later. I had no idea this was taped. Thank You so much.

I totally agree - USMale it would be great to hear your first hand account of what it was like to see Elvis live in 1956!Matthew wrote:It would be great to read some of your memories of this event for posterity.
And are you on any of the audience footage by the way? (a long shot I know but that would be cool!)

I'll do the best i can but it has been 50 years.Seems like i was a hundred yards away from the stage, i remember standing there and seeing him come on stage and i thought he was great. I couldn't believe my eyes.I was spellbound by Elvis just like most others were. Everywhere you went back then everybody was talking about him at school at church at the grocery store you name it. He would shake on stage and wiggle his hips and woe the crowd and the girls screamed and squealed. My dad didnt like Elvis at first but years later i think he finally learned to like him. Ive always felt like after he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show there was no turning back. I knew he was a famous man then but i had no idea how famous he would become later on.
My parents also went to see Elvis that night along with my brother and i and most other kids parents were there escorting there kids as well. Thats the way familys were back then. Everything was a family outing. Most kids didnt go anywhere alone.

Hi USMale. Presumably you are referring to the 1956 show and not the one at the same venue in Sep 1957. In which case:
- 1. Did you go to the afternoon or evening show or both?
2. What town were you living in at the time?
3. Did you ever hear the recordings from these 2 shows that were first released in the eighties?
4. Do you know a book & DVD have been released this year focusing on these performances? This contains the newly discovered footage you have been watching but in much better quality.
No sig.

Thanks for your answers. Out of all the hundreds of live concert performances Elvis made in the fifties this is the only one where we have any matching sound & film. It's not complete but it's still an amazing record of an important day and you were very fortunate to be there!!
Here you'll find some info. about the DVD & book package. http://www.elvisinfonet.com/book_dvd_review_tupelo2.html
This seems to be sold out now but there's also a DVD only version containing the same film. Click here for the company that produce it:
