Rob,
I still get this one out every once in a while just to give it a listen. I clearly remember almost every radio station in town playing the song over and over and over again in '77. I also remember having to go to 2 or 3 different stores trying to find the album. Still brings back some rather sad memories of a very sad time.

Sure does Rob. Brings back a lot of memories gone by from almost 30 years ago. One of the best tribute songs in my opinion.

Sincerely

100% Agree one of the best yet tribute songs out there!!
Good to hear at this time of year,
As Mr.McDowell does a fine job on this tune, indeed.

Ronnie provided the vocals for the TV movie, Elvis And The Beauty Queen. When it first aired, I taped the audio, using a cassette recorder placed in front of the TV.

I LOVED his version of The First Time Ever I Saw Your (Friggin') Face. In fact, at that time young Elvisjock had never heard Elvis sing the song. When I subsequently purchased Elvis' studio performance, I was really disappointed. Ronnie's was better. As time went on, I heard many audience recorded Elvis versions, followed later by the soundboards. To this day, Elvis hasn't topped Ronnie on this song, to my ears.

That's the First time I've heard that. Thanks for posting.

I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010

a labour of work,
i still remember how it brought tears into the eyes of a little boy, as it still does today ...

here another version by unknown impersonator butch dicus, just to show you how good ronny was:

this one was fun for me to listen to and watch, so i´d like to share it with you and all flintstone fans out there:

My first exposure to McDowell was seeing him sing this song on American Bandstand, shortly after August of '77.

Very, very moving and it had me very misty eyed as a kid.

Thanks for the memories, Rob.

The key to any tribute is sincerity. Despite the hokey introduction, McDowell's vocal is superb and still evokes the deep sadness so many millions of fans felt that Tuesday in August. This one is a keeper, then and now.

If any of you are interested, Ronnie put out a record in the late 70's I believe titled, "The Reason I live". One of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear. This song would have been an Elvis song for sure.
I played this 45 over and over back then.

Mcdowell's sing is a "classic" foer sure. In Denmark "I Remember Elvis Peresley" by Danny Mirror has been a steady play, by at least one dj at the national radio

Ooops - this was an edited version of the song. Hope to find the real one

He lost me when he said he hoped someone would tell him, You sound just like Elvis"...and then began to sing, not sounding anywhere near Elvis...
