Why Wooden Heart single in 1977?
If I remember correctly (I was only 10 years old), when Elvis passed away, Wooden Heart was released as a single and it entered the top 10 in Holland. After it had its run, My Way was released but this was stuck around spot 30.
My question is why was Wooden Heart picked as the first posthumous single? I can understand the release of My Way but Wooden Heart makes no sense to me (although I have to admit as a child back then I liked it).
Any ideas?

Was this a worldwide release or Holland only?
In general, the Dutch tend to like Wooden Heart a lot (the general public), so if it was a Holland only release i can see some sense in it. Also, it appealed to a clean and fresh image of Elvis, instead of afferming all the gossip and rumours that were around in those days. My Way certainly fell into the latter category.

I have no idea. I was ten and just found out that much of the Rock 'n' Roll I used to hear in my fathers bar was actually Elvis because of all the radio attention for Elvis. Wooden Heart gave me an idea what he looked like. Remembering Elvis' last name was demanding my attention so I had no notion of national or worldwide releases.epf wrote:Was this a worldwide release or Holland only?

Yeah right . I did appreciate the German Elvis releases in the 80's though, like The Complete Bonus Songs, The Starparade and Elvis Sings The Blues.Spellbinder wrote:...Holland. They appreciate anything and everything associated with Germany.

I never understood the Wooden Heart hype.
To me, this song symbolized a fallen rock & roll king..
Even more amazing is the fact that Elvis himself briefly performed this song a couple of times in Vegas, December'75..
Thank god he cut this song in Pontiac during his new years eve show;)
