Original Released Versions of Elvis Songs

#374804

Post by Ross Carpenter »

I just recently got a 45 copy of the Mark James version of "Suspicious Minds," on the Sceptor label, which I really enjoyed. I thought it'd be a nice idea to talk about original releases of songs Elvis covered. If it was on 45 or LP what label and what artist. This seems like it might be another cool little Elvis thing to collect on the side.

You'd also find his collection interesting:

Shouldn't it rather be Songs that Elvis made famous than Songs that made Elvis famous ?

Does there also exist a CD specifically containing originals of songs Elvis recorded from 69-77?

Don't forget the 1977 demos released by JAT a couple of years back.

How about a list of Elvis covers? Songs that are Elvis classics and were covered by other artists after Elvis released them?

Thanks, I have that one - interesting CD. A natural source of Energy would in fact have been a good idea for Elvis at that time.

I do have some songs by Gordon Lightfoot, Bitter They Are by Larry Gatlin, Gentle On My Mind by John Hartford. My aunt bequeathed the single The Last Farewell by Roger Whittaker to me. Still, a collection of these and others would be nice to have. Maybe Ger could contribute two Olivia-songs out of his collection?
