Lady Madonna / Mojo Working Jams
We all know RCA didnt release the complete songs because of the foul language Elvis uses in the begining of the songs.
But why the "fade-in"? Why not just remove Elvis vocals from the track and have him come in later?
(better still, why care about the language?)

Keep on Rockin'
"I Got My Mojo Working" is edited at around the 3:25 mark on 'Essential Elvis Volume 4' to take out "M F N...". You can find the complete Take 1 (Unedited) on the Bootleg 'A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On'
The complete "Lady Madonna" has some very suggestive lyrics which are all edited out of the '70's Box' version!

Yes, they don't need censoring in any way.Rockin_John wrote:We all know RCA didnt release the complete songs because of the foul language Elvis uses in the begining of the songs.

The kids today hear every known expletive on their pop songs.

I do too. It's a totally different take on the song, compared to the original, and it works. Bad language doesn't bother me, but it's a shame he swore quite so much in this period, as it's hindered the release of some great stuff. Seems MF was his fave word at the timeDarrylMac wrote:Ironically, although they edited the suggestive parts on Lady Madonna, they still left a mumbled "f**kin" in, at around 45 seconds.
I love the feel to this jam, Elvis is clearly having fun, and I'd love to hear the whole thing.

Is it possible to hear this un-edited version of "Lady Madonna"....or at least a transcript of the words sung? What are the odds it will see the light of day?Keith F wrote:"I Got My Mojo Working" is edited at around the 3:25 mark on 'Essential Elvis Volume 4' to take out "M F N...". Hello,
Ask and you shall receive, IMETJB.
Prior to the fade-in Elvis sings "Where did you ever learn to beat your meat."
This answers Rockin' John's question as to why there is a fade-in.
It's also interesting to note that the subject of masturbation came up while Elvis was recording "Life" in June '70.

No, you're not imagining it.shanebrown wrote:I'm sure there have been a few expletives on FTD releases before, in studio dialogue - or am I imagining things?
A few expletives have 'slipped through the net'.
With Elvis' own daughter having expletives in her songs, even reproduced in the official lyric sheets, they don't have any reason to 'clean up' Elvis' stuff on moral grounds any more.

I love it when He swore, have 2 X rated albums of Him.....must be the rebel in Me.
I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010
