Jd Sumner dvd im watching

Post by daz cav »

Just received a dvd from a good friend of the birthday concert 12.8.1992
sat down and started to enjoy the show then i got a big shock.
during the stamps rendition of love me tender Jd keels over backwards on stage falls off his chair bangs his head then after a couple of minutes hes fine and back on with the show.
He looks like he fainted and i was glad to see he was ok shortly after. were any of you at this show that could throw any light on this show and how jd was after this performance.
I never got the opportunity to see and meet JD as he sadly passed before the first elvis the concert at wembley 23rd jan 1999, but that great booming deep voice will be missed forever and im glad elvis had jd around him and im sure there up there singing bass together now

JD was known for his booze habits, yet in '92 he wasn't the youngest anymore.

I saw JD about the same time in Belgium, he did a fine job.
Try you tube on JD and you'll find some stuff..

Great guy.

I've been listening to JD's singing on Blackwood Brothers CDs from 1954 onwards. He was more tuneful as a younger man, of course, but incredible on some songs, especially live in LA in the early 60s, doing a song called "I Get Happy". The audience applauds almost as soon as JD starts singing, it's such an incredibly infectious sound. It's so interesting to hear something of JD's years of experience before ever working with Elvis on stage. I can see why Elvis loved the Blackwoods - amazing voices and harmony, lots of feeling and energy and humor.

I was at the show. He fainted. When he was helped to his feet he blamed it on the heat and low blood sugar. He said there was nothing wrong with him "except bad breath."

Nurse Cocke tended to him, and the Stamps continued the show as a trio.

"Don't tell me to play it. I will when I get ready. Do you understand me?"

I was there that night on the front row. What a scare for the fans. He was ok after awhile. He was hot and yes low blood sugar.

J.D was a unique individual and one of Elvis' musical heroes. He remained a true friend to Elvis and the fans till his death in 1998.

I sure would like a copy of that show. Please email me!

If you really like JD..then get yourself a few of the early Bill Gaither Homecoming dvd's...JD is on a lot of them doing gospel solos.
