I bought it in 2000, but had to restore it and locate original parts. Mine, like others I've tried made around the same time has a narrow rounded neck. It's almost a soft v but very subtle. I picked up Duane Allman's in London and it was identical (3 digits off in serial number too).

Here is the complete story on mine http://www.pbase.com/jroy/my_54_strat

Awsome pics and text, James. Thanks for sharing. Did I see a 52 Telecaster in the background in one of the pics?

For me it's always been the Ebony "Dove" model with the signature fretboard.

Thanks Jon, it was a blast doing it, and the fans helped quite a bit asking questions that made me go out and get answers to.

No, that was a homebuilt project I did. I've since sold it and another project to a friend.
That would be this one you thought to be a 52

I like them all. Favorite: Ebony J200. When did he use the violin though? Or did EPE just put it there, because it looks nice and was expensive?

Just curious. how much would you sell another 52 homebuilt tele for? Great touch with the brass sadles.

I think i was into that for about $600 and sold it and another along with a modified Cry Baby Wah pedal to my friend for $1100. I got tired of building things though that I could by. I initially started that project just to replace the body on the other one and wound up completeing it as a whole guitar. I never cared for the sound of it though with the Noiseless pickups, it only sounded good in one amp I had which was a 64 Blackface Twin Reverb reissue.
I wouldn't know what to sell one for now, unless it has a "name" brand the resale is rather low. Homebuilts and stuff like that is basically to get the mods and materials you want. You rarely make any money with them.

Great thread.

I'm a Tele nut myself...got 6 in the house and a few acoustics. This is, primarily, Springsteen's influence, but my favourite is actually the '72 Custom Tele (the black one) that Keith Richards is associated with.

Somehow, though, Elvis doesn't look right with a Tele on the photo on this thread...he's wearing it too high
