The print is pretty small, but it actually says first version not fast version !!

It does say first version on the box set; but I remember first reading about the set on a website, before it was released, and that definitely said fast version!

Nice version nevertheless and a great box set.

Getlo -

He recorded 'Singing Tree' on the 11th September, 1967, and then did a remake on the 12th.

The 2nd version is a little different, but there isn't any noticeable change in tempo between the two.

Do you know if he overdubbed any of his harmonizing on the first version, or was it just his solo vocal on those takes?

It seems that Elvis only did his harmony vocal overdub on the remake.

He obviously felt that the song [which was never going to be a classic] needed something extra !

It was all to no avail, as it remains bland and insipid, with some of the silliest words in a non-film song that he ever did.

I remember first hearing the song as a 'bonus' on a soundtrack, and I liked it then. The lyrics are pretty silly - but I do like the way Elvis sings it.

The harmonizing with himself works particularly well.
