I love your little compilation. Great concept! Nice to gather 1966-1968 tracks. The best were very good indeed. It would have been a great idea back in 1968 instead of "Singer presents Elvis" and others.

I agree! The exclusion of "Early Morning Rain" however, is inexcusable.

Yeah, the 66-67-68 studio material sits well with the sit down show tracks!

Live Compilation
The following live selection was desperately hard to choose. I restricted myself to one disc's worth. I took into consideration the best sounding performances and in some cases plumped for a shorter rendition, e.g. PSA, which was not my favourite. Sequencing was quite hard, because of the applause/in between banter. On the whole, I think the tracks flow together quite well. As you can see, they're all from 69/70, which is my favourite period. I may do a second disc of performances from 72/73.
That's All Right (TTWII disc 2)
Mystery Train/Tiger Man (TTWII disc 2)
All Shook Up (Elvis at the International)
Words (TTWII disc 2)
Walk A Mile In My Shoes (TTWII disc 2)
Sweet Caroline (TTWII disc 2)
My Babe (Elvis in Person)
I Just Can't Help Believin' (TTWII disc 1)
Make The World Go Away (TTWII disc 3)
See See Rider (WAMIMS disc 5)
Release Me (LILV disc 3)
Don't Cry Daddy (LILV disc 3)
Kentucky Rain (LILV disc 3)
Polk Salad Annie (WAMIMS disc 5)
Proud Mary (WAMIMS disc 5)
Hound Dog (Elvis at the International)
Johnny B Goode (LILV disc 1)
There Goes My Everything (LILV disc 2)
Just Pretend (LILV disc 2)
I Can't Stop Loving You (TTWII disc 3)
Stranger In The Crowd (TTWII disc 3)
Suspicious Minds (TTWII disc 2)
Can't Help Falling In Love (TTWII disc 2)
For those of you who are interested, I've also just done a compilation of Johnny Cash tracks, which will be posted in the Off-Topic section.

Seriously? Hey, each to their own of course. I think this track qualifies as one of the worst commited to tape in the 70s and was rightfully left off the boxset.Cryogenic wrote:Hey...
"Padre" is a fantastic cut sung with real passion.
It's one of several bizarre exclusions from "The Essential 70's Masters".
