On the 18th February 1970, Elvis was playing in Vegas to sell out crowds, and recordings from this date namely The wonder of you & Polk salad annie would ultimately be released on the On Stage February 1970 lp, but way across the other side of the country in Nashville at the Grand Ol Opry house Johnny Cash was recording the 20th of 58 tv shows for abc, his guests that night included Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis , i have just watched this show and was thinking alot of why's and what if's, but just imagine if Elvis had been on that show too , the Million Dollar Quartet in their prime on National US TV.
I wonder if he was ever asked to appear and the colonel refused!! not enough money etc, because just about every other performer of note at that time appeared so why not Elvis!!
18th february 1970 from Vegas to Nashville

i see your point but i dont think the venue means much here its the fact that three of the four were still playing and occassionally touring together and for this type of show i am sure Johnny Cash would have wanted Elvis as a guest, the response JLL got from the audiance was amazing that night.
i know there careers took them in very different paths, but why did Elvis not appear on shows like this??
the obvious answer is he didn't need to but i would like to think that he would of been interested if he had been asked
