The Perfect Elvis Studio Reference Book.

If Steve Shole's Master & Session site could be published in book form, but with Ernst Jorgensen writing the comment and background info, wouldn't that make the perfect Elvis reference book ?

So how about it ?

Yes, but won't we also want a complete concert list included as well? Something like Mark Lewisohn did for the Beatles with The Complete Beatles Chronicle.

No sig.

I would surely buy such a book.
In Rotterdam, The Netherlands, there is a publisher where people can have their own book printed. If the typed material is ready to be printed there is no extra fee for (re-)typing and/or correcting text.
This is for plain text only. Each photo will be extra. However, the number of pages is limited to about 120.

Yes, I meant a perfect reference book for Elvis' studio stuff !

Steve hasn't touched the live stuff, except for the '68 Special.

Wouuld be a great project - with input from the engineers who are still alive like Bill Porter, Al P., etc.
Someone with RCA knowledge of why certain releases were made etc.

I've been after Steve to publish his work for many years, but he's not willing to do anything until he completes the 1970s, several more years down the line.

In particular, Sholes' sections on June 1968 and January-February 1969 are the definitive statement on the magic that happened in Hollywood, Burbank and Memphis. The hours he put in -- at his own expense -- to unravel these sessions is a true service to the Elvis fan.

And the site is FREE. My hat is off to him.

Yes, Steve has done a great job !

A published book might just give him some financial reward for all his efforts.

Much agreed.

I would definitely buy that book.

Iam not quite sure, I guess the perfect studio reference book isn’t poossible now.
Why? Well, I think not all jam session takes, missing movie songs are known. There are a lot of tapes in the hands of the movie companys and private collectors. Example: In the year 2006 we do not know, which songs Elvis really recorded at Sun studio between 1954 and 1955. There are a lot of rumours and we’re speculating. Currently I see no differences between Tunzi’s book and the fantastic studio recordings website.

I guess a book is not the best solution . I prefere an Elvis recordings session software (database with all known songs and takes) and if there are coming more takes to light, we should upgrade the database via internet download.

No way.... Tunzi's book is worthless to me, as a collector, since it
doesn't include unreleased takes only available on bootlegs. Bootlegs
are reserved for a section in the back of the book, but not mentioned
in the main session part of the book.
On the other hand, the Recording Sessions website not only includes
takes only available on bootleg, but lists the bootlegs a take is on
in order of BEST SOUND QUALITY! It doesn't get any better than that.
Count me as another one who would buy a book version of this wbsite
in a minute. Too bad it hasn't been updated in years.

Really ?

Sixtiesstereo is right !

Joe doesn't list every take with the known info on it, does he ?

Steve does !
