The brilliance of "If I can Dream" from the 68 spe

Having just watched the video of this song several times the last couple of days I still can't get over how great Elvis performed it. The way he dug in and sang this song from beginning too end, throwing his body into this song practically squatting during certain areas to hit certain notes and how exhausted he looked when it was over, it brings tears to my eyes.

Pretty good for a mime :D

Elvis didn't mime it, at least not the one that's in the TV Special...

Pretty amazing stuff.

oops  I apologise.

I was thinking of the stand up shows.

He does impart a real feel for this song an all versions - just a pity he couldn't break away from the Bienstock empire more.

When he did the results could be spectacular - witness Suspicios Minds

actualy elvis sings this song to in his black leather suite ....(the stand up show) another outtake...

He does a pretty bad mime when he's dressed in the black leather.

Wonder why he didn't sing it live? He sang it perfectly in the cream suit.

I'd love to see some outtakes of the song - perhaps in the new DVD release? :D

Getlo, the outtakes have been around for a while on boot video, in not bad quality.

Elvis sings about 4 or 5 versions, in the white suit.... to the backing tape.

KEEP ON ROCKIN'

Absolutely. Well said, Joe, beautiful. Thanks. See it exactly the same way.

"Dug in"
"Beginning to end"
"Throwing his body"
"Squatting"
"Exhausted"

It was a fight - and he won.
