HI,

I SAW A POST ON A ELVIS CD HAVING A BAD CASE OF CD-ROT AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT IS THAT AND HOW DO YOU KEEP THIS FROM HAPPING . WHAT CAUSES CD-ROT TO CD'S.

THANKS MEMPHIS RAINS :!:
I AM NOT VERY UP-DATED ON CD'S YET AS I NEED TO BE. I APPERICATE YOUR HELP.

CD Rot

The shiny part of a CD is a thin layer of aluminum. Aluminum is susceptible to corrosion if not properly sealed. In the early days of CD manufacture, not all manufacturers were skilled at properly sealing the CDs and as a result some CDs actually rotted when the aluminum corroded because it wasn't properly sealed. This isn't an issue with recently made CDs, and most commercial CDs also didn't have this problem, but a number of early CD imports rotted. Unless you are buying early imports on original CDs, I wouldn't worry about it.

CD rot can be easily spotted.

If the CD bears the lettering EMINEM or Barry Manilow then rot has set in.
