On the 1976 LP ‘Elvis – A Legendary Performer Vol. 2 the third track on side B is Blue Hawaii.
In the liner notes it says it’s a “later unreleased live recording of the title song from his biggest movie released in 1961”.
But, to my ears it’s just the orinal studio master…
Anyone know what’s the story behind these liner notes??

ALOHA FROM HAWAII

This version of "Blue Hawaii" was recorded on stage at the HIC in Hawaii January 14, 1973 - following the live satellite telecast.

After the live telecast, Elvis and his band and backing group recorded 5 songs to be included in the "revised" tv special:
Blue Hawaii which is the version on A Legendary Performer vol 2
Early Morning Rain
Hawaiian Wedding Song
It was no orchestra, just Elvis and his band, making this a nice, intimate "recording session".
No More didn't make it to the final tv-version broadcasted later, but eventually was included on the remastered vhs/dvd release of Aloha from Hawaii a few years ago.

I can't believe how freaking awful the sound is on these tracks!
(speaking of the January 14, 1973 recordings)
Even on both "Alternate Aloha" and "AFHVS", these tracks don't sound any better than what you hear on "Mahalo"???
It must have to do with trying to get a "studio" sound from a live performance setup.
