Frankfort Special on "Close Up"... Mystery Train

Wed Jul 09, 2003 9:03 pm

This may seem kind of silly but has anyone noticed how
the beginning of Frankfort Special, especially the take on "Close Up",
sounds like Elvis is going to start into "Mystery Train"???
I guess it's fitting as they are both "train-related" songs.
Just an observation.

YES!!

You're exactly right. I thought I was going to hear Elvis sing "Train I ride.....sixteen coaches long" 8)

It's the same exact guitar lick. They probably thought of this and changed it so it wouldn't sound like it.

Funny, but i heard the same thing!!
How cool it would be to start the singing with"Train i ride...",even if it would be just one line,it would kick ass!!

I thought that too. It would have been great to hear him do an early 60s take of Mystery Train. If he had continued, as he did on the intro to Going Home from Collector's Gold, when he launched into Heartbreak Hotel for a couple of lines, who knows?

Yes -- the basic rhythm is a weak pastiche of Elvis' Sun classic.

I wonder how Scotty felt while playing it, let alone Elvis singing it?

Whoah, whoah!
