Jungle Rooms Sessions, Vol.2

Sun May 28, 2006 12:59 pm

Hi Gang,
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I've been away on work/holiday & haven't spotted the thread if there is one.

Having spent a few weeks with 'Made In Memphis' I liked it more & more and sort of discovered its nice theme of Elvis in a thoughtful & introspective mood.

I also wandered off to create my own "Jungle Sessions Vol.2"
There's always more to discover.

– By collecting together all the extra ‘Jungle Room’ tracks together from other BMG CDs you can compile yourself a very pleasing ‘Jungle Room Session Vol.2’. Give it a try.

Jungle Rooms Sessions, Vol.2
1. For The Heart (Tk 1) (Platinum)
2. Pledging My Love (Tk 3) (P)
3. Way Down (Tk 2) (P)
4. She Thinks I Still Care (Tk 2B) (70’s box)
5. Hurt (Tk 5) (P)
6. Danny Boy (Tk 9) (P)
7. Solitaire (Tk 7) (Made in Memphis)
8. She Thinks I Still Care (Tk 3,4) (MiM)
9. For The Heart (5) (Tk MiM)
10. Moody Blue (Tk 6) (MiM)
11. Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall (Tk 1) (MiM)
12. Love Coming Down (Tk 4) (MiM)
13. She Thinks I Still Care (Tk 10) (TT&F)
14. For The Heart (Tk 4) (TT&F)
15. Hurt (Tk 5) (TT&F)
16. Danny Boy (*Bonus off ‘Tucson 76’)

Anyone else compiled something similar or has better ideas?

Cheers
Piers

Hi Piers

Thanks for a great tracklist, and a fine review (on your website) of 'Made In Memphis'.

As far as I'm concerned, there have been at least two previous bids at a 'Jungle Room Vol. 2'-inspired set, both with great tracklists and cover art.

One was by Johnny Tyrone called 'For The Heart - Back In The Jungle Room' - you can see it here:
http://www.planetexe.com/johnnytyronne/

The other was by Spinout called 'Moody Blue And Other Alternate Performances', and is to be found here:
http://www.tcb-world.com/spinoutdesigns/coverart.html

Of course, none of them include material from 'Made In Memphis', instead including more live performances of Jungle Room-material.

Regards,
Skjernaa

Piers!
I have collected all the outtakes, not featured on the Jungle Room Sessions FTD on my own CDR and it is a beautiful collection!
I love'em both.
I would have liked to hear the original output in a remixed, remastered sound.
Stripping the "Jarvis syrup" a little would bring new life to the originals!
I liked the new mix of Moody Blue on E2.
And I enjoy your reviews of Elvis CD's!! Keep up the good work!

That's a great idea Piers! I think I will make me a copy like yours!

A very good idea for a cd...so many fine tracks left that could still make up a terrific volume 2 edition :D

FTD should note this idea for a future project.

great idea as always :-)

I'm actually working on a CD titled "MEMPHIS'76" which combines the Jungle Room tracks with some fine performances from Elvis' Memphis gig in 1976 .....

Another FTD with all pre -released material ? Piers do you hold shares in BMG ? :D

Heck, they should perhaps release it as a new Camden album.

How about including 'America' from the 76 show included in de FTD Rocking Across Texas book?

How about including 'Moody Blue' live from Fort Baxter release?

How about including the 'Memories From Elvis' versions of the 76 recordings?

How about including the versions from the BILKO release 'More Pure Elvis'?

How about including a good version from 'Unchained Melody', a real 76/77 tune?

Greetings,

JeroenNL

Sorry, not gonna happen anytime soon.

I heard Ernst talk about a supposed "Volume 2" exclusively on sirius radio and he said there just wasn't enough material to release such a cd, hence, the Made In Memphis disc :!:

I certainly wasn't suggesting that FTD released this selection as J.R Vol 2.
(Please, no more re-releasing of songs we have already bought before!)

However the idea was just an easy compile that anyone can do from regular BMG/FTD releases (they would no doubt already own).

There are plenty more tracks to fill it up from Bootlegs & Live recordings, of course.
But then there is, a) Drop in quality b) The odd selection of live songs (& E never really got 'Moody Blue' right when live).

However I thought that the one fabulous moment from Tucson '76 (Danny Boy) does actually work as a 'Bonus Song.'

Hi Piers! I made a CDR with your suggestion, I did add some extra live tracks to mine, they are as follows:

17. America (Elvis in Texas FTD)
18. Hurt (Hot Winter Nite in Dallas)
19. Unchained Melody (Hot Winter Nite in Dallas)

Came out great!

Hi Jeff,
Without going overboard on the 'live' possibilities, those 3 tracks do work very nicely indeed. I have gone & added the same.
- Sweet!

Will play very nicely in the car tomorrow on the way to work!

Cheers
