What's happened to Clambake on Double Features

Tue Jul 01, 2003 4:34 pm

I have been playing the Double Features disc.. Kissin' Cousins, Clambake & Stay Away, Joe, what they done with the song "Clambake", if you listen at the end, they have spliced it too close to the other bit.
I compared it to the album and it's certainly a different splice.

Is it on any other CD with the original end splice

John,

I didn't get it (Command Performances), is that the double, with Elvis in the red shirt on the front. I never got that CD, if it is.

John did you get it, if so is it the same as the Double Features

Thu Jul 03, 2003 3:14 pm

John it's the very end of the song, it's very minor but it's there...
It's about 2:29 mins, the gap sounds a fraction shorter than the LP version. I think it's how it has been remastered, and I bet every version they put out from now will be the same.
You have to listen very hard to hear it, it's only very, very minor, like I said. But I heard it the first time I listened to it, on the Double Features.

Cheers John for checking it

Hi Joe,
I will check also a few other older RCA BMG CD's re: the Clambake song.
Will mail as soon I have heard the tracks.

Hi Joe,
well I can tell you, you have very good ears :)
The Clambake version on the Double Feature CD + on the 2 CD Jewelcase Box set Command Performances Vol.2 are the same!!
With the same short splice after 2:29 min.
But on the USA Special Products CD An Elvis Double Feature Speedway / Clambake PDC2-1250 after 2:29 min the splice is a tick longer!!
You can hear exactly after 2:29 min and before the background starts to sing again a 1-2 sec long Drum Beat, than the chor starts to sing again.
This I have never noticed.
But you are right.
So on this CD must be the Original mix with longer splice.

CHEERS ANDY... GOOD MAN

I was wondering about that first CD Clambake/Speedway, I thought that might have the original splice on it.
The first time I heard the Double Features I noticed it, I hope they bring out the album in the FTD series, with the proper edit.

Hi Joe,
thanks.
You are right ;-)
I also hope they bring out the Original Versions with Original Mix.
I bet after hearing this today that there are also more titles reissued not in their original form.
This was a great question and I never have noticed that.
Take care,
Andy-M.

We'll talking about that, "My Little Friend" has never, {has far has I know} been put out as the proper LP mix, if you listen to the original "U.S. Male LP from the 70's, it has a lot better mix on it, than what's been put out on CD.
Also "I'll Be There" was a lot better on the LP version.

Anoraks unite :!:

Bring back our missing one second of silence :!:

What's wrong with RCA :lol:

Fri Jul 04, 2003 12:14 am

Hi Joe,
I think the tracks on the US Male CD are edited.
I don't know any RCA CD who has the unedited takes in Original Mix.

Kiwi, that was a good one ;-).
But not the longer silence is missing, but an instrumental part is edited out.
After that many years, RCA is NOT able to bring out on CD the unedited takes with original Mix.
This has nothing to do with more or less silence.

John, your CD's will be sent out on Saturday!!
Hope this is OK for you, so you are also able to hear the diff takes ;-)

ANDY, Is the cover of the U.S. Male the same cover as the LP from the 70's. "Aloha From Hawaii" shot.
Is it a special products disc, like they put out "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Burning Love and Hits from his Movies", in Canada.
Has it not got "My Little Friend" on it.

Fri Jul 04, 2003 7:47 pm

Hi Joe,
the cover is NOT the same as the Vinyl LP!
It has a picture of Elvis in Concert. Don't know exact the year, but it must be one from mid70's.
The CD incl.: US Male; Well be together; It's a matter of time;
Almost in Love (2:50min); Let's forget about the stars;
My little friend (complete) If I'm a fool (intro cut); I'll take Love;
Today Tomorrow and Forever; Let's be friends (intro cut); No More; Burning Love (intro cut);
I have the Aussie CD RCD1111 from the Rainbow Label under Licence from BMG Arista/Ariola Ltd;

Andy-M.
PS it has a silver Label with blue writing. It is made in Australia 1990.

ANDY,
That sounds a bit bad, is the intro's completely cut off or do they fade up, what about "My Little Friend" are you sure it's not got the original LP mix on it.
I don't suppose they have released the album "Almost In Love" on CD, with the alternate "Stay Away, Joe" on it. If you remember they released two versions of this album.
One with "Stay Away" with a cover showing Elvis in the blue jumpsuit from Feb '70, and one with Elvis in a black shirt and red waist coat from the '68 special, which had the alternate "Stay Away, Joe" on it.

Both these albums have the original mix of "My Little Friend" on 'em

Fri Jul 04, 2003 9:39 pm

Joe,
the mix on the US Male CD is Original.
The Intro is only edited about 1-2sec. They fade up.
The My little friend take is the Original Mix unedited!
The Almost in Love CD exist as a RCA Special Products CD but WITHOUT Stay Away Joe!! It incl. the Stay Away track as it appeared on the reissue Vinyl LP!
The Almost in Love CD incl. also the My Little Friend in the Original Mix!
Andy-M.

Fri Jul 04, 2003 9:57 pm

Andy,

Do you have the "Almost In Love" CD, and if you do does that one fade up.

Fri Jul 04, 2003 9:59 pm

Joe,
the My Little friend take do not fade up on any of these 2 CD's.
Only the tracks I have mentioned EDITED have a fade up.
The Almost in Love CD does not have any fade up tracks.
Andy-M.

CHEERS ANDY,

I'm gonna see if I can get hold of that one "Almost In Love", what about "I'll Be There" is that out anywhere. Original mix.

Andy, did they put out "Let's Be Friends" album on CD.

Fri Jul 04, 2003 10:52 pm

Hi Joe,
TOO bad that they did not put out Let's be friends on RCA CD with the Original Mix! I wish they did!
About I'll be there I must check.
