Dan,
I don't have this one but have the "Greatest hits 1"compilation.
The special versions on this one are the same as on the UK release, you mention the "special things" about it after each track!!

This is a highly recomended and very powerfull album, nice cover and great tracklist(altough not all of them could be considerd as "hits")

Thanks for your info;
A small mystery remains:
"Don’t Cry Daddy from 25th anniversary box set" IS NOT FEATURED on EAP!!!
It must be a mistake from RCA UK.

I am also surprised that by 1981 "Angel" had not yet been released in stereo in the UK, same for"You'll Never Walk Alone "!!

I knew already that "Suspicious Minds " took ages to be released in stereo.

Great to see that "Burning love" was already being remixed!
(Was this very same version released on the essential UK Best of 95?)

Johan D
Thanks too Yes I think it was a great LP which tried to offer something "new" at the time for people who could not afford the huge EAP box set!

Regards to all
Dan

The sleeve notes were indeed incorrect about “Don’t Cry Daddy” being from the 25th anniversary box set. As far as I’m aware the remix of “Burning Love” that first appeared on this album was unique to this release.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” was issued as a mono single, and later on the budget album “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which was issued in mono in the UK. There was an interesting article on the old board last week in which it was confirmed that a few stereo copies of this album were pressed, and these are now collector’s items.

I think the expanded UK version of this album marked the start of Roger Semon’s involvement with the UK releases, and to his credit he made the album better value for the UK fans. The same thing happened with the UK version of the “I Was The One” album in 1983.

Was 'Don't Cry Daddy' not on the 8 disc vinyl version and omitted from the CD version ?

Having just dusted off my turntable to give the Burning Love remix a spin doesn't the term remix in this instance amount to little more than maybe altering the equalisation and or volume levels on certain channels ? - it didn't sound particularly different to me.

The version of Kentucky Rain found here remains my favourite live version of this song - I didn't discover it on the Silver Box untill it came out on CD.

“Don’t Cry Daddy” wasn’t on the original 8LP set either, and to my ears it’s a different version than the one that was issued on the 1999 version of the “On Stage” CD.

The best sound for "Burning love" is on the "Heartbreak hotel" soundtrack cd.
A boring movie, but what a soundtrack!! Elvis next to Alice Cooper, you can't believe it!!
The only let down is the tracks sung by david Keith;but Burning love has never sounded better then on this release!!
This one is clear, has power, it rocks!!

I think everyone has given just about all the info on this album !

I have "Don't Cry Daddy" as being from 17th February, 1970, Midnight Show.

"Are You Lonesome Tonight" is the laughing version.

"What'd I Say" is shortened to 4:19.

"Steamroller Blues" is from the Aloha rehearsal.

"Kentucky Rain" is from the 16th February, 1970, Dinner Show.

Dan,
This was released in the late 80's,it has some good Elvis tracks(If i can dream, ready Teddy...) next to alice Cooper, some blues songs, and awful Elvis songversions by David Keith.
A reworked version of Heartbreak hotel(not by Elvis tough),is also realy cool.
But THE one stand out is ofcourse the powerversion of Burning love.

Strange that an awful movie like this has such a good soundtrack.
If you can pick it up somwhere don't hesitate,if you can't find it drop me an e-mail(or private message) and we can trade maybe for a cdr copy.
