I wonder how many of the original session tapes have been digitally transferred. More worrying, are the tapes still left in Iron Mountain decaying with age?
I was appalled after reading David Bendeth's account of the Master of Way Down having to be baked just so they could play it! Especially considering it was one of the last sessions Elvis attended.
Has there been a determined effort by the folks at BMG, to transfer every tape they have? I worry it all boils down to money - or lack of investment. If there isn't financial gain, what would be their reason to transfer every session tape they have? BMG don't even have the right equipment needed to play some of the old reel to reel tapes. David Bendeth had to resort to borrowing one player from a museum just so he could play them!
The legacy of Elvis's recordings needs to be preserved and it needs doing now - before it's too late.

Can you imagine those fragile tapes not being usable because BMG couldn't be bothered to transfer them?! Perish the thought.JLGB wrote:Those tapes were salvaged so no need to worry there. The original master mixes (in general) might get damaged for being overplayed! Time to transfer to high resolution storage medium track by track. Dropouts will be coming...
If BMG want anyone to take on the mammoth task of going through every session tape, I would gladly do it free of charge.
