Nice.

We can hope, at least. Maybe one day...

You missed the April 5, 1972 Buffalo show and also another show on that tour that was filmed by MGM (unless I'm having vision problems, it's always looked to me like the "On Tour" montage of "Love Me Tender" includes a close shot of Elvis in the white 'Philly' suit; from April 15?).

What is rumour and what exists

Sun Jun 22, 2003 10:07 pm

thank you for your list Christian. But I am a little confused - by saying that your list is a mixture of existing footage and rumour and not indicating which is which you leave us all still wondering what is for real. This only makes the rumours grow.

are you able to specify which on your list above does exist in private hands?

As well - what is your definition of pro footage - mine is filmed on 16mm film with sound or 3/4 inch or 1/2 inch industry videotape with sound. I don't consider b/w, color 8mm silent or sound footage to be pro-shot.

thanks for any clarification you can offer

Looked at that info from the April, '72 tour -- thanks. I wonder if the cameras really were deployed at all of those shows, how much footage was shot, how much survives, and how much we'll ever see.

Anyone up for a bit of spelunking in MGM's salt mines?

We can only hope that, if in fact Colonel Tom Parker sold unreleased film footage to EPE/Graceland, then hopefully we'll see this footage in the "Elvis Anthology" they are working on (which is supposed to come out next year.)

Christian
I certainly understand the need for privacy and security and i am not asking you to reveal any names or places at all. I think I speak for a lot of people when I am asking, if possible, you point out on your list above what is known to exist and what is just rumoured to exist.

Otherwise the the rumours and speculation increase.

I for one can confirm that the 02/18/70 or 02/23/70 DS and MS 's were filmed on 16 or 35 mm film cameras from the balcony at the international in what became test footage to show MGM what an Elvis documentary may look like.

I don't know who instigated the filming or where the film is now, or f even it was developed - I can only confirm that the cameras were there and were filming most if not all of both shows.

how do I know? - i know a lady that attended 35 shows between 1969 -1976 who was there and sat near them in the balcony.

TITI,
I have about 30 to 40 mins of silent "New Gladiator" footage on VHS. It was filmed on a handheld camera from a projection screen that was playing the original reel to reel footage at a private gathering. Of course, the quality is poor due to the technique used to capture the image, but interesting all the same. This footage is primarily all Elvis and the boys working out and giving demonstrations for the camera. If nothing else, it proves there is great footage in existance from this project.
