What rockabilly songs is Elvis thought to have done, etc

Wed Jun 18, 2003 9:57 pm

Because of the talk of the possibility of a newly-found acetate... it got me thinking: is there a comprehensive list of the songs he is thought to have recorded or performed live during the SUN days?

And, just for the heck of it, have you heard any songs (either from that time or now) that you think would have been good as Elvis SUN songs?

Kind of a silly post, but I hope you don't mind, anyway. :)

Hi Mike -
Songs I think would've been great for Sun/early RCA period rockabilly Elvis are: Move It On Over (Hank Williams); Singin' The Blues (Guy Mitchell); I Don't Wanna Hang Up My Rock & Roll Shoes (Chuck Willis); Memories Are Made Of This (Dean Martin); Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby (Carl Perkins); Slippin' & Slidin' (Little Richard); I'm Walkin' (Fats Domino); Flip, Flop & Fly (Big Joe Turner).

Sittin' On Top Of The World
Money Honey
Little Mama
Money Honey
Shake, Rattle & Roll
I Got A Woman
The Old Wooden Church

Just A Closer Walk With Thee
Rock Around The Clock
Mystery Train

I Forgot To Remember To Forget
Sixteen Tons

Tutti Frutti
Heartbreak Hotel
Blue Suede Shoes
Peace In The Valley

Great song choices!

I also thing that Hank Williams' "Long Gone Daddy" would have been good, too.

Elvis-Fan, that version of "Sittin On Top Of The World"... is it the Blues number that "Howlin Wolf" does, or the pop-esque number Dean Martin did? I always wondered that...

Two snippets from each:

Dean's goes "I'm Sittin' On Top... Of The World... just rollin' along... just a-rollin' along..."

And Howlin' Wolf's version goes: "And now she's gone.. but I don't worry... 'caure I'm Sittin' On Top Of The World"

Anybody have any ideas on this?

Although there is no physical evidence of Elvis' rendition of this song
(or the song itself), Dean Martin was obviously a favorite singer of Elvis'.
Any insight into Elvis' particular rendition of the song would be pure speculation, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I thought about that... but both songs are soo good, it's hard to pick.

Have you heard them both?
