Soundboard Listing Problem

#14841

Post by drjohncarpenter »

Keith -

It was brought to my attention that you have posted a Presley soundboard list on another Web site without any other credit but your name:
Concerts Released Professionally Recorded – Soundboard or Multi Track
(All Shows - Las Vegas unless stated otherwise)
(No Audience Recordings)

Bold – released by BMG / RCA
+ means you need both ~ means same material
As the current list remains about 80% of my work with barely any revision by your hand, and as we already discussed -- and resolved -- this omission previously on this very MB, I would appreciate your doing me two favors.

One, please add my name to the credits for the list ASAP, and cite FECC MB as the original location of where I posted this.

Two, please do not post this list under just your name any more.

I trust I won't have to ask a third time. Thanks.

Hi doc,

I think that's not a big deal and no reason to worry. A lot of us guys have written their own lists for years. At least the facts remain and we can't do anything against the point, that our lists look very similar.

When you came up with one of your inital post regarding this subject - and I think it was at the first FECC mb (that is two steps far away from now) - you brought to our attention, that you were inspired by one of my posts, where I had posted a rough list with almost all available soundboards. Later on you skipped to name that source and I was never angry, 'cause you and a lot of other people spent a lot of effort in this list.

Furthermore I remember as well that you once came up with a more detailed listin our previous messageboard and you've stated that it was posted by Johnny Savage at a newsgroup.

So you see the sources are widely spread.

I never asked Keith to occur in his list of sources, 'cause I'm still doing my own list and it is different in various points to the one that Keith has prepared. Although I have also benefited from the facts that have been posted at this mb, I will and can not name each and every person that came up with the right fact, cause a lot of that came clearer in our discussions.

In my opinion it is a nice thing to put such a list online - visible to us all. That's what Keith is and was doing.

This is only my point of view, but I'd like to emphasise.

Taniolo

Taniolo -

Your list, whatever it was, looked nothing like what I ultimately came up with. On the other hand, what Keith is posting apparently all over the internet is 80% taken from my hard work.

Keith -

Any Web site that refuses to honor a credit by Dr. John Carpenter is a place that I would think you might want to disassociate yourself from.

Do what you wish, but know that I don't appreciate your inability to honor your promise to me about credit. And you can count me out of any future correspondences here.

For waht it's worth (probably not much) ;- two things of note

1. I made a similar listing to this approx 18 months ago, two people that regularly post on this board can confirm this, I don't think anyone copied it me, it's just that there is a need for such a breakdown & it can only be done in this similar manner (IMHO).

2. Last Friday (Friday 13th June.....ooops hope it's not an omen), I view the aforementioned listing & it had credits of XXXXXX.com/Keith Flynn/Dr John Carpenter. The X's representing the not to be mentioned website, after reading this post yesterday I noticed that the Doc's credits were no longer there...strange ? I think not when you consider some of the fantastic INTERVIEWS on that website.

Do I know anything about him ?
I was raised in his home town

Are you going to be saying something to him, are you going to talk to him ?
Well that just all do depends
Are you looking forward to seeing him ?
Sure
Why don't you show us where he comes in here
He's coming through this door here, there's two doors in this entrance
he comes through this door here in this entrance and then open it back like this
then this one the other door comes back like this.
"

What a surprise.

That site had a big problem last year with my pointing out on this MB their misappropriation of -- and no credit for -- "rare" photos belonging to others. Case in point was a shot they posted from the June 1956 Milton Berle rehearsal which they: 1) colourized while claiming it was true color and 2) said the image belonged to them. It was stolen from Ger Rijff's wonderful "Shock, Rattle & Roll" photo book.

Their most recent "rare" shot gets all the facts wrong. How impressive.

Hi, Squirrel!

Actually, they don't mean that you scanned it reversed or that you reversed it, they just mean that the picture in the book that you got it from was reversed. It's nothing you did, just the way it came.

Hope that helps!

I've checked the other web sites which has this list on them and they ALL have you as part of the credits for the list now. To be honest, I'm very surprised indeed that you wanted your name mentioned on such a site !!! a site which you, yourself have said you want nothing whatsoever to do with !!!
I hope everything is OK with us again now

Keith
It's not about location, it's about credit given for work invested AND the fact that we already discussed and came to agreement on the issue.

If I used 80% of something you posted on this MB, you can be sure your name would be a part of anywhere else I shared it. It's only fair.
