new orleans as single release ?

Sun Sep 18, 2005 8:58 pm

question : are there any plans so far for putting out New Orleans (from King Creole) as a single in the same way America was released following 9-11 in order to help the Red Cross ?

If they did (and I guess they won't) wouldn't it be nice if they chose the overdubbed version (which, as far as I'm aware, has never been released)?

We've seen a few interesting song-lists for a potential charity disc. But trotting
out one of Elvis' old songs may just reek of exploitation of a still-tragic
situation and disaster area.

Besides, it's not even clear right now how much New Orleans is going
to recover. In any event, it's still a mess that will take years to rebuild.

The song would
have to be targeted only at the right moment (or buried on a
compilation) if that. A clumsy rel-issue would invite scorn and ridicule,
if they were lucky. CD sales are in the tank, period.

Given that BMG was just snared in a latter-day Payola scandal in New
York, they don't need adiditional bad press, not for a "catalog" artist.

The version used in the movie is overdubbed. Listen carefully and you will hear a vocal backing overdub (I assume the Jordanaires).
