Release Me - Feb. 77 tour

Tue Jun 17, 2003 12:06 am

Hi folks -
Can anyone tell me how good is the quality of Elvis' performance of this song on the Moody Blue & Other Great performances cd? Does it compare to the version on Adios? Thanks in advance.

Pete,

This version is indeed very enjoyable! Nothing to be compared with the 1970 / 1972 performances, but overall very good for 1977.

Kind regards,
Stefan

I agree with you regarding the February 1970 performance but the version from Greensboro April 14, 1972 is far from his best work.
The February 1977 version is excellent sound quality.

It's a very good performance (the one on "Moody Blue &...") in itself and especially compared to the other tracks on that album. Elvis sings it in a bluesy (or soulful if you will) way. Not that the others bad, but on some tracks Elvis seemes a little bit incoherent. But it has great versions of Reconsider Baby, Moody Blue, Where no one stands alone and Polk Salad Annie... :)

If you have a chance in grabbing a copy of this classic Baxter release (almost impossible to find), get it! I did, and I consider it together with FTD's Spring Tours 77 among the best and most honest (good and bad) documents available from 1977.

I thought that was a cool CD beause the track on Feb 16, 1977 were performed exactly 3 years prior to the day I was born. Kinda silly, probably, but I thought it was cool.

That gives me the idea of looking up what Elvis was up to the day I was born (1974). Probably playing with his foot... :D ...
