I've noticed that, so far, alot of you list the 1961 Hawaii concert, but how often do you guys actually listen to that show?

the sonic quality leaves alot to be desired, altho, an immense , unmatched performance by our man...

Thu Aug 25, 2005 6:34 am

It's more listenable than Tupelo 1956! Honestly, I don't find the audio quality that bad. And everything else about it is fantastic. What a gig.

August 12, 1970 - Las Vegas
November 14, 1970 - Los Angeles
November 15, 1972 - Long Beach

I absolutely agree Doc, even tho I don't listen to it all that often...

Great show...

what a pity he stopped performing these type shows in his prime!

My favourite is August 3rd 1969 although it would be strongly challenged by November 11th 1970 should a soundboard ever surface.

Thu Aug 25, 2005 10:55 am

Asheville, July 24'75 (Pieces of my life)
Atlanta, December 30'76 (Such a Night)

Great setlist on both shows including some surprises..

I listen it fair enough when I'm in the mood - about every 4 months. It just a killer show, and soundquality is certainly better than several audience recordings from the 70s. Indeed, it is one of 6 Elvis shows I have in my iPod.

I've never heard the 61 performance. Is it as good as everybody says it is and any idea where I could download it? Thanks in advance.

Go listen to it. It is available on disc 1 of the Elvis Aaron Presley Box set, released by BMG on CD in April of 1998. This may be out of print, but its worth tracking down.

I don't think Steve will mind if I reference his website, so if you go to

http://www.elviscrawler.com/chrono/date_expand.php?id=2956

..you can listen to it there. Worth getting it on CD though. You can try Ebay for copies of Elvis Aaron Presley. It's where I got my copy.

Actually, I've just gone back and listened to the March 25th performance. It's my favourite aswell. It's electrifying. Elvis is enjoying himself immensely, and the crowd can't get enough of it!

Brilliant!

I like the fact that Heatbreak Hotel opens the show, Such a Night is included and he even uses the original lyrics for One Night with You. Too bad Colonel Parker did not have NBC film this show.

Dallas - December 28, 1976

Thu Aug 25, 2005 7:39 pm

it is very difficult to answer....

first, not all the concerts sound the same..not all are complete...

would us rate better a professional complete recording of let's say feb 72, dec 76, asheville 75, opening night 74.......?

would us rate lower ttwii shows if the movie had not taken place and all we could listen to were audience? and if ttwii was filmed in august 72??

difficult answer

Thanks Kevin, for some reason I can't download it, still the pictures and general info are awesome and what a great set-list!

Has to be the performance on Fort Baxter's Just Pretend, or (as it's so difficult) I rather like the original Madison Square Garden concert release.

Then again - the 69-70 concerts are rockin' too! It's just too damn hard.

How about a "Dream Concert"? Take all the performances you like from different concerts of any year and arrange them into a "set-list", making it last about as long as your average Elvis concert would (I know on-stage time varied, but maybe keep it to a maximum of an hour and a half?).

Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:34 pm

I agree that the Hawaii 1961 and Memphis 1974 shows are among the best and in my opinion the best I have heard.
