RATE ALBUMS FROM THE 60'S

Tue Aug 02, 2005 2:26 pm

For the purposes of this thread, Gospel, Live and Soundtracks are included. The only albums not included are compilations so really 'Elvis For Everyone' doesn't count. Also, no posts about when the 60's really started and ended.

1) From Elvis In Memphis
2) Elvis Is Back
3) From Memphis To Vegas / From Vegas To Memphis
4) 'Elvis' NBC Special
5) How Great Thou Art
6) His Hand In Mine
7) Something For Everybody
8) G.I.Blues
9) Pot Luck
10) Blue Hawaii

My 60s Top 10 would have to be

1. From Elvis In Memphis
2. Elvis In Person
3. Elvis Is Back!
4. Pot Luck With Elvis
5. Something For Everybody
6. His Hand In Mine
7. Elvis' Comeback Special
8. Back In Memphis
9. How Great Thou Art
10. G.I Blues/ Blue Hawaii
joint 10th place! :D

As you can see, I have chosen to split up the From Memphis To Vegas/ From Vegas to Memphis double album into it's rereleases Elvis In Person At The International Hotel and Back In Memphis, although these rereleases didn't appear until the 70s...

Or maybe they didn't?
Judging by another thread recently, 1970 belongs to the 60s...?

Just couldn't help myself...!

I agree with some of the posters here, that 2 of the best 60s albums definately would have been The Lost Album and Tomorrow Is A Long Time.

Unfortunately, there are lots of examples on lost opportunities when it comes to RCA's album policy during Elvis' career...

And the 70's was the same problem...good songs were wasted for non charting singles. To think that Elvis was going to rule the pop charts was a long shot at best. He clearly could have been an album man.

Obviously a film fan, but Blue Hawaii or GI Blues don't make the top 5 film soundtracks??
