From what I've read over the years, the mob were fans and friends of Sinatra, though I'm sure some wiseguys went to see EP perform, (though I'm guessing). Elvis kind of arrived in Vegas later in a sense that mob ties weren't quite as strong in the 1969 and early seventies in Vegas as they were in years past when they owned all the casinos and ran the town.

I'm sure the mob knew Colonel Parker well given his gambling debts. :x

Joe Esposito tells in his book that when Elvis did the tv-show with Sinatra in Miami there were several top mob people present.

He did...

There are some documents on thesmokinggun.com (or something like that) from 1974...

anybody who "did" Vegas for any considerable period of time had ties with the mafia.

anyone who owed the casinos millions (Col Parker) had ties with the mafia.

there is a story in one of the books, (can't remember, either Alanna Nash's book The Col or one of Guirlank's (sp?)) mentioned a visit that Elvis had from a couple of "suits" to discourage him from touring in Europe.

One of the west"s (Red?) said in an interview in the 90"s that they never had any dealing"s with the mob ... When he died there was a court case coming up with people who worked for the mob and tryed to get money for a Deal on a plane? from him,in a con.

I was just watching the special edition dvd of Casino (great film IMO) and as a bonus feature there's a documentry of the Las Vegas mobsters. There's a story of a mobster Moe Dalizt who made the Desert Inn. They show a photo of Elvis with Juliet Prowse on the set of GI Blues and with them is no other than Moe Dalitzt. I wonder did Elvis knew who he was hanging around with?

Because of the "Admiral's" friendship with the owner, perhaps because he owed him some money too for his gambling debts.

Elvis met different mafia guys over the years both in Vegas and Los Angeles, they made offers to him if he ever needed anything taken care of to call them.

Elvis obviously never took them up on anything because Mike Stone would of been a memory in the Pacific ocean.

Which is good because the mob would have owned EP after that.

It isn't entirely clear to me how that would have been a worse thing for Elvis in those last few years. 8)

What would they have done? Demanded he shape up to play some million dollar overseas gigs for which he'd collect only 25%? Told Parker where to stick his back invoices? Gotten him a mob manager to skim some off in side deals? Made Elvis play Vegas on the cheap and stay on him to upgrade his show so the crowds kept rolling in?

Casino was an excellent film with great performances from DeNiro, Peschi, Sharon Stone and James Woods. I'm not sure if EP realized that he was being photographed with a mobster or if he even knew that he was married at a hotel with mob connections, given that everything was setup by the Colonel, it would be interesting to find out. Perhaps somebody can shed some more light on this?

He knew according to several MMM's but he was always respectful in his conversations with them and non-committal to anything they offered his way.

Hollywood and Las Vegas had them everywhere during that time and everyone knew who ran those towns, casinos and studios.

Besides Frank Sinatra was constantly in the press for his associations throughout the 50's and 60's. It wasn't like Elvis was not exposed to them all around him.

Your written English is atrocious. Surely you mean "Mike Stone would have been a memory".

I can't believe I just opened the thread for that pedantic crap. Give it up man.

Thank you, Spellbinder glad you haven't went on a long holiday, the mafia is looking for you right now.

Spellbinder -

It is a common error to shorten "would have" to "would of" instead of the correct "would've" when writing.

Can't see it achieves much to point it out on a MB like this, though.

I'll get Rusty to slap your legs !
