HE TOUCHED ME The Gospel Music Of ELVIS PRESLEY

Thu Jun 12, 2003 2:57 pm

This has to be one of the best documentarys on Elvis, it shows the general public what a great, fantastic, kind hearted guy Elvis was.

If you ain't got it, buy it.... well worth money.

What do you reckon.

Absolutely... just awesome!

Can't say enough good things about it, and I guess it's still selling well? Not surprising if it's true.

Besites the fact that all material is taken from previously availible
sources, the fact that the comments from the specialists are too long and are
getting slowly but surely on the nerves, the fact that songs like An
American Trilogy, You Gave Me A Mountain, In The Ghetto, Bridge Over
Troubled Water and e.g.I`ll Remember You are definitely no Gospel
songs, the fact that several songs are repeated twice and therefor the docu is streched artificially in length , it is worth the money.
I would take this film with reservations in my opinion it`s a cheater.

I Carolyn in Australia, I found it very touching at the end, with Ed Enoch when he breaks down. It just shows how much the guys in the group admired each other, all the guys, not just Elvis.
I don't understand what this ciscoke guy is on about, "Lord You Gave Me A Mountain", if it mentions the Lord I would think it's religous, obviously not got a clue. The others are maybe not religous, but they are songs with a meaning.
And the part about a cheater, what the hell you on about. It only cost about £12, to here the guys talk about Elvis like they do..., in my opinion it's worth £25. I think films like "Elvis The Movie" and "Elvis and the Beauty Queen" are cheaters, where Elvis isn't even in 'em.

Is it worthwhile buying the CD set?

Thu Jun 12, 2003 9:04 pm

Which CD set do you mean

Thu Jun 12, 2003 9:55 pm

The "HE TOUCHED ME" 2 cd set.

Ciscoking,

I know what you mean about the song choices... it's a bit screwy, but here's their thinking:

"You Gave Me A Mountain" - he's talking to God

"I'll Remember You" - words taken from Bible verses

"American Trilogy" (they list this as only "All My Trials", which I think is the only part they play - he speaks to God "briefly" if that makes any sence..

As for the other songs.... I don't have a clue. lol Perhaps to show how the spirit of his religious singing carried over into other song types..

This thread has got me confused !

The two-CD set must be 'Amazing Grace' - right ?

Thu Jun 12, 2003 11:05 pm

Definitely 100% buy the DVD, the quality is superb. The "Aloha" clips are something else. Spot on clear, I know in the states they have released both the "Aloha" shows, badly edited.
But this DVD in my opinion has got to be one of the best. It just shows how much Elvis really loved singing religious music and how much he loved the likes of J.D. Sumner & the Stamps, The Imperials, The Sweets & all the other fantastic guys around Elvis. Fantastic. I love 'em all.

Hi, Colin!

Actually, when you ordered the "He Touched Me" video set from the place first had it, they sent you a special 2 CD set of songs from the show. Pretty cool, there's even a promo floating around out there. (I've got the 2-CD, but not the promo)

Hope that helps!

There you go!

I wish I had pics.. if someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'll post pics on my site as soon as I can.

Unbelievable, nothing like that in UK.

Mike love the photo, is that from the Las Vegas, February '70 season.

HE TOUCHED ME!

This is the kind of programme that should be shown on TV along with the
"CLASSIC ALBUMS - ELVIS PRESLEY" DVD.
Just get 'em folks! Then you'll SEE!

You mean my login pic? Thanks! It's from Jan 72, Elvis is trying on various jumpsuits. The original pic is on the Tunzi book "Photographs And Memories" But I'm sure you notice the changes.. (as I'm a Superman fan, too!)

Here's a big version (so I can shamelessly show off my work lol)

To answer the probable two questions.... :P

1. Yes, it took awhile, and

2. Yes, I have that kinda time on my hands.lol

Very clever, I didn't realise. I thought it was the blue suit from the "Our Memories Of Elvis vol 2" (LP)

Fri Jun 13, 2003 12:32 am

Thanks!

Yeah, it's kinda small... in my info.. didn't want it to crowd the posts, though, so I had to keep it that size.

I agree. A very cool program to own. I guess my only complaint is that they have priced it out of the market for what some people will spend....... what I am saying is that it obviously could've fit on one DVD and they could've charged a normal DVD price. If they had done that I think more people would buy it. I believe my DVD's were $35.

I just wish they would have more J.D. on it. But I have my Stamps videos to get my J.D. fix I guess :D

Oh, on the songs........growing up in the AG like Elvis we sang "Battle Hymn of The Republic" a lot, it was in the hymnal........ LOL...... so there is the "American Trilogy." Mike covered the rest well. I think "Ghetto" and "Bridge" have religious connotations.

The only thing I don't like about the show is Ray Walker telling he taught Elvis "How Great Thou Art."

Like I said I was AG like Elvis and we sang that song a lot. So unless it is a tale to make Elvis look good about going to church there is no way he did not know that song. I find it impossible. Given the church and given his love for gospel music. It is a standard, come on Ray!

:)

I love J.D. also, but I think at the end, it says has a tribute to Elvis Presley and J.D. Sumner or something like that. I can't remember, I will have to watch it again. But I think that's why J.D.s daughter is on, 'cause obviously J.D. had passed away by then. I think!.
Good comment about "How Great Thou Art" though, I can't see Elvis not already knowing the song.

The inclusion of songs such as You Gave me a Mountain, American Trilogy, I'll remember You and others in the program is that they are inspirational more so than religeous.

Several we're edited on the VHS version.

This show has played on CMT several times.

This could have been a 1 tape/DVD program. I think they really stretched it out to make 2 tapes/discs. More money that way.
