Does anybody own a copy of a book, with El' pictured with other stars. I remember looking at it in a store, quite a long time back. I didn't buy it 'cause at the time I didn't have enough money on me. I remember a fantastic picture of Elvis with Engelbert Humperdink, not the common picture that is in every other book, but a picture I had never seen before, or since. I wish I could remember the name of the book, but I can't.

I think the book you are refering to is called ELVIS AND THE STARS from the collection of Jim Curtin Morgin Press Inc Wayne PA 1993
Its got a pink cover gold stars and a picture of Elvis printed in black. The photo of Englebert & Elvis however is the one Im most familiar with
Stars featured include; Muhammed Ali, Ursula Andress,Eddy Arnold, Fred Astaire, Milton Berle, Joey Bishop, Bill Bixby, Pat Boone, Jim Brown, Glenn Campbell, Jimmy Carter, Johnny Cash, Lou Costello, Rodney Dangerfield, Sammy Davis jnr, Jimmy Dean, Sandra Dee (questionable whether its her), Fats Domino, Billy Fury, Samuel Goldwyn, Alan Hale jnr, Mahilia Jackson, Dean Jones, Tom Jones, BBKing, Sonny King, Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, Liberace, Sophia Loren, Shirley Maclaine, Lee Majors, Johnny Mathis, Dean Martin, Carl Perkins, Gary Player....and many more.
Its not a bad collection, most of the pics are pretty familiar ones its just nice for reference purposes to have them together in one book.

I might be wrong, but I thought it was a colour picture, it's that long ago, I can't remember, but the picture above I have seen before. I seem to think it was more of a full body shot, it might have been another photo, from the same date.
Thanks for the picture anyway, what year would you say it's from or more to the point, what date and where.

Few people realize that it was Humperdinck, not Elvis, who made famous the sideburns and flamboyant leather jumpsuits. Engelbert often jokingly asserts that Elvis "stole" the image from him. Nevertheless, the two legends often performed one another's songs, and enjoyed a lasting friendship until Elvis' death.

I'm not sure about the leather suits but Elvis made sideburns famous in 1956, long before Engelbert was around, or at least known.

El' never had big sideburns until 1969, Engelbert had big sideburns back in '66 '67 when he kicked off. Don't get me wrong, Elvis had sideburns in the 50's but nothing like has big has Engelbert Humperdink did.

Engelhump Burkadint may have had his sideburns earlier than Elvis in the 60's, but so did millions of others !
It was simply the fashion in the mid-to-late 60's, not just for performers, but TV newsreaders and presenters, and the general public too.
Elvis simply kept his for longer than most of us !

True Colin, you are right.
Also... El' wanted to grow burns in the 60's I believe, but I don't think the film companies, MGM, Hal Wallis etc. agreed, he also liked his hair longer and he hated wearing short sleeve shirts according to plan. I reckon myself, once he grew back the burns he looked superb. He looked superb anyway, all the time... but once the burns came back... Fantastic.
