Foreign movie titles translated back - Hilarious!

Thu Jun 05, 2003 12:03 am

I posted this one on another messageboard but I'd like to hear your opinion, so I'm going to post it again:

One of the reasons why people think about Presleys movies the way they do are the moronic titles (not the original titles but the foreign titles, that is). Of course this is not the only reason but I'm pretty sure it is ONE reason. Here are the German titles translated back into English.

01. Love Me Tender - Gun smoke and red-hot songs
02. Loving You - Gold from a red-hot throat
03. Jailhouse Rock - Rhythm behind bars
04. King Creole - My life is rhythm
05. GI Blues - Cafe Europa
06. Flaming Star - Flaming Star
07. Wild In The Country - The rebel's song
08. Blue Hawaii - Blue Hawaii
09. Follow That Dream - A Summer in Florida
10. Kid Galahad - Hard fists, hot love
11. Girls! Girls! Girls! - Girls! Girls! Girls!
12. It Happened At The World's Fair - She may be blonde or brunette
13. Fun In Acapulco - Acapulco
14. Viva Las Vegas - Hot nights in Las Vegas
15. Kissin' Cousins - The wild broads of Tennessee
16. Roustabout - King of the red-hot Rhythms
17. Girl Happy - Curve-Lilly
18. Tickle Me - Cowboy melody
19. Harum Scarum - Lost in Harem
20. Frankie And Johnny - Frankie And Johnny
21. Paradise, Hawaiian Style - Southsea paradise
22. Spinout - Never Say Yes
23. Easy Come, Easy Go - Sailor ahoy!
24. Double Troule - Trouble for two
25. Clambake - Just don't be a millionaire
26. Stay Away, Joe - Hot fists, hot songs
27. Speedway - Speedway
28. Live A Little, Love A LItte - Darling, please stop the lying
29. Charro! - Charro!
30. The Trouble With Girls - Always trouble with the girls
31. Change Of Habit - A heavenly deception

Which ones do you think are the silliest and which ones are okay? Which are most "typical" for the image Elvis had? What about titles from the country you live in?

In Sweden not all titles were changed into Swedish. But some were... here they are:

Love Me Tender - Duel in Texas
Loving You - Young man with a guitar
Flaming Star - Half-breed
G.I. Blues - A Yankee with the move on
Wild in the Country - Wild young man
Follow That Dream - Sheriff
Fun in Acapulco - Fun in Acapulco
It Happened at the World's Fair Heart for sale
Roustabout - Fun on a bike (the title is so silly in Swedish since it rimes)
Tickle Me - Jamboree in the Wild West
Clambake - Elvis in full speed
Live a Little, Love a Little - Love me a little
Stay Away, Joe - Elvis - the wildest in the west
The Trouble With Girls – Tangle with girls

About the Germany titles I especially liked My life is rhythm, The rebel's song and Hard fists, hot love. And The wild broads of Tennessee was a much better title than than Kissin' Counsins.

Wow, Little Sister, thanks a lot! These titles are even more hilarious than the German titles, I know! "jamboree In The Wild West" is amazingly stupid! "Fun On A Bike" is - well, I don't know ... Who made these titles? Who is responsible? "Elvis In Full Speed" seems as if there was nobody caring at all in 1967 ... And what the f*%k does Follow That Dream have to do with the Swedish title "Sheriff?

Hello!

Thanks Little Sister! (Tackar, lillasyrran!)

Wasn't 'Follow That Dream' called 'The Dream Sheriff' ('Drömsheriffen') in swedish?

(Håller du med om att den dummaste titeln mäste vara 'Elvis I Full Rulle'...? )

Best regards
/Jonathan

Yes, you're correct, I forgot the first couple of words. The complete title is The Dream Sheriff. (och ja, Elvis i full rulle kan nog klassas som den dummaste titeln, och varför i hela världen skriver man en skådespelares namn i en filmtitel?)

Sergio Luiz - He and the tree nuns. Yes, it sures sounds like a porn movie!!

Some spanish translations:

King Creole - The quarter Vs Me
Wild In The Country - The wild one
It Happened... - Kicks and tears (I really don't understand this title)
Harum Scarum - Harem Holidays
Blue Hawaii - Love in Hawaii
Paradise Hawaiian Style - Hawaiian Paradise
Roustabout - The wanderer
Fun In Acapulco - Acapulco Idol

Unfortunately those aren't the most hilarious movie titles translations. Some Like It Hot was turned into With skirts and crazily
