"Release Me" ... Elvis' 1st performance?

Mon Jun 02, 2003 6:06 am

When was the first time Elvis performed "Release Me" live?
Is it confirmable that he did it in 1969?

He didn’t perform it in 1969, but it was rehearsed prior to the midnight show on February 18, 1970 along with “The Wonder Of You”. As we know RCA were recording selections for the “On Stage” album at this time, so I would guess that the song was added to the set list around this time (and possibly performed during the dinner show, like “The Wonder Of You”) before being tightened up during the rehearsal ready for RCA to record the master during the midnight show.

It's all coming back !

Didn't one of these new-fangled punk bands have an album cover like that ?

'Crash' or something...........'Luton Phoning' or whatever.

Just knew I'd remember !

Hi Colin,

The Clash paid tribute to Elvis’ 1956 debut album with the sleeve design of their 1979 album “London Calling”, but I suspect you already knew that. Both are great albums in my opinion.

Actually, I don’t think the font I used is exactly the same font that was used on Elvis’ first album sleeve. I’ve been trying to find it for some time now, and this particular style is the closest I have found to what was originally used. The original style must surely be out there somewhere though.

For those that are interested, I found this particular font at http://www.1001freefonts.com and the style is called “The Rifleman”.

Graceland Gardener,

Do mean the text in red, or is there something written in the spotlight behind Elvis?
