Sundial Suit in '74

Fri May 30, 2003 6:40 am

The Sundial suit which Elvis wore so much in 1977 was debuted in October 1974 in Lake Tahoe. I don't know how many nights he wore it then, or if it was even more than once.

I'm wondering if there are any other suits which he did not wear for as long a period of time and later revived like that. It seems like in '76 he started to wear some he hadn't worn since '74, but off the top of my head I can't think of any others which he wore three calendar years apart like he did with the Sundial suit. Am I forgetting something obvious?

This just seems noteworthy to me because if it is in fact the only suit he did this with, it is strange that it turned out to be the last one he ever wore. Well maybe not strange, but...something.

Just found this picture here on this site in Jumpsuit Junkies. There are a couple more too. It is from the Oct. 12, 1974 DS.

If you look carefully in the " Jumpsuit Junkies " section you'll see for the same year pics from Lake Tahoe 1974 ( page 1974-2 ) with the " King Of Spades ". That latter suit was only worn in Tahoe '74 and then re-appeared in October 1976 with an alternative belt ( the belt of the v-neck suit ) and started to use the orginal belt again in March 1977.

Yes, and that would leave the Sundial suit with the longest time between appearances, wouldn't it? Well, I suppose not if you consider the belts.

Yeah a bit longer but only by 4-5 months.

Also makes me wonder why that suit didn't appeal to him enough to wear it more after its first appearance(s) in '74, but it did later in '77...or, if its revival was due more to its being one that still fit him then. Guess there's no way of knowing, but this is just the sort of thing I think about.

It's hard to say. A few other suits from 1974 made a re-appearance in October 1976 ( Rainbow & Inca Gold Leaf ), the " Flame suit " in October 1976 was " possibly worn in 1974 as well ( Tahoe in October 1974 would be possible ).

He could had used several others in October 1976 if he wanted to ( Peacock by example ) so why did he pick those particular ones!!!??? I don't know.

All of these suits look so much better on him in 1974 then they did in 1977 IMO. Elvis wasn't quite as big and they didnt 'stand out' as much as they did in 76-77.

Yeah, it seems like none of the existing and new suits fitted Elvis good in '76-'77.... For me '75 was the last year where he looked good in the suits....
