When was the last time Al Dvorin said "Elvis Has Left The Building" at an Elvis show?

#1976516

Post by elvis4life »

According to this link: https://www.elvisnews.com/daybyday/details/522 , it was the first time Al took over as the announcer 11/6/1971 in Cleveland, Ohio & it's where he first said "Elvis Has Left The Building". But when was the last time he said those words [before Ed Hill took over as the announcer]?
I can't find the answer anywhere either on the forum or anywhere else, thanks in advance.

It's not the correct answer.

Ed Hill had taken over the closing announcements long before June 26,1977.

Duly noted. I stand corrected, Rob!

This is probably a unsolvable query unless you have deep access to tour tapes.

Al Dvorin was still around as late as June 1977, you see him in the CBS-TV special preamble. Ironically, you can hear Ed Hill shilling for the "super souvenirs" in the background of the segment.

But if you listen to some of the concert tapes out there from 1976, Hill is introduced by Elvis as the guy doing the announcements before he comes on stage as well as noting his spot in the Stamps. So that narrows it down a bit.

Hill joined the show in 1974, replacing Dave Rowland beginning with the May 10th gig in San Bernardino. So sometime between this tour and whenever you hear Presley make a comment about Ed handling announcements is your timeline for Al moving on.

I can help narrow this down. Going by the FTD soundboards, the last time Al Dvorin made the closing announcements seems to be from St.Louis MO, March 22 '76. The first date I heard Ed Hill's closing announcements was from Odessa TX, May 30 '76 ES. I also checked out the last track from the Spokane concert which closed out the April '76 tour, but the closing riff was still playing as the track faded out. So if someone might want to check out their audience boots from the April tour?

Checked Kansas City April 76, the tape ends after the initial line but it doesn’t seem to be Al anymore.

So March (St Louis) may have been the final time indeed.

Sorry Brian but it has been determined already Al Dvorin stopped announcing after March 1976.

Well, then the CD Adios - 6/26/1977 - has clips from another show tacked onto the end? May want to explain that one...because that's where this clip is from.

But Brian, that clip you put up still has Ed Hill, as expected, announcing Elvis' departure! No help I'm sorry.

Thank you for confirming. I don't know the specific details on whether it's Al Dvorin or Ed Hill...hence my comment that "maybe this recording will help."
