MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
Saw this posted on Facebook earlier, it appears MRS has released the recently discovered November 22nd, 1956 interview and live performances on streaming services in some parts of the world.

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
The tape presumably contains 1 interview and 2 songs from the show. Pretty darn' good for what it is, but definitely not a complete show.
But wasn't it EJ who acquired the tape?

Thanks @Elvis2000!
I still have a bad feeling about this. Maybe @Greg1995 will be able to comment.

It was me who obtained the recording first. All the others got if from me - I shared it with bunch of close colleagues, including Ernst. On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 6:19 pmThe tape presumably contains 1 interview and 2 songs from the show. By their opinions it was my privilege to decide what do with recording and who to release it with.
I (nor Keith) didn't take any part in this release.
I've wanted to do my own, quality release with the right label, because I've cared for this personally - finding such recording been a dream of mine for more than a decade.
But I'm happy for the fans they'll get to hear and enjoy unpublished material from the 50s

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
Thank you! You said before that Ernst had a copy of this but I wasn't aware that others were given copies too. Based on that, I expected an exclusive on the official label at some point and didn't see this coming at all.Greg1995 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 6:46 pmIt was me who obtained the recording first. I hope this release doesn't cause you too much pain as this looks like something many won't pass on... me included.

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
If they got the recording themselves, it's not theft.
Also the recording is P.D.
The recording comes from radio station, not the DJs family who owns the original tape but they were not interested to make a deal.
Can DJs family feel angry and cheated if they find out their recording is out? Yes.
Do I feel bad about losing the opportunity? Yes
Not everything that is allowed by law, may be found morally/ethically good for others. And that works both ways.

I just finished listening to it
The audio programmer has gone over the top processing the tape which is a shame.

MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
Looks like it has a release date of April 25, 2024.
Runs about 12 min. I would suspect there will be a physical release as well.
The shear pandemonium!

And here we go . . .
How long have you been friends with this shady grey market label?

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
It won't be "THE release of the year," the tape is a brief interview and two and a half songs.
Audio is below average and MONO.
You will notice that the shady grey market label has used their home computer software to make it "stereo."
The recordings have been discussed in detail in the past month.
Some of it has been available online for years, and you can learn more on this excellent topic:
Holy Toledo --> Presley Pummels His Accuser!
https://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1975080#p1975080
You may notice the high-quality photo prominently featured in that topic's opening post, and how the "new" release takes and horribly colorizes it.
Pure class.

I think a radio station aired that recording back in 2017. This might be the original source.

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
I think it's ok to share the beautiful mock-up cover art done by Søren Karstensen (Memphis Mansion) some time ago for a release that never materialized.
The cover shot and the title was my idea (as to a handwritten comment on one snapshot from the show of Elvis leaving the stage).
There was a fuss over what color the jacket actually was.

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
I do hope the MRS cover art is not final. The Memphis Mansion version is a lot better save the coloring.
There's nothing wrong with a good black and white picture. A release like this needs a decent cover.

You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

By their opinions it was my privilege to decide what do with recording and who to release it with.
If it wasn't a matter of money, I do find it a bit troubling that Ernst "passed" on this material. Maybe because it didn't fit any upcoming or future SONY projects or ... who knows? I just find it odd, perplexing, and troubling that the man in charge of Elvis' recording legacy would not want to be in on this material and secure a release. It makes me scratch my head and wonder what other items have been offered him that he took a pass on. This was not the case a few years back with the Hayride wire recording of "I Forgot To remember To Forget."

Re: MRS: Elvis Presley On Fire in Toledo - 1956
No, it’s not theft by MRS and by the date it is in Public Domain anyhow. But Greg1995 clearly states that he gave it to a few people including EJ, and this kind of thing could have happened with other tapes whereby several people have come into possession of various soundboard tapes. But It’s perfectly clear you have a finger pointing agenda against MRS without looking at or considering all the possibilities.
