Spring Fever
The NHL playoffs start today. Here in Canada we have access to all Eight Round 1 series. Most are Canadian productions but about half are American feeds that we get through our Sportsnet network.
Turning on the New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Game 1 broadcast today on TNT, the opening video highlights montage had what song playing to the highlights?
Spring Fever!
I was really surprised, sounded great!

Spring Fever
I’m a Vancouver Canucks fan all the way! Have been since they entered the NHL in 1970.Mike C wrote:That is great to hear! Who are you rooting for in the playoffs?
I love the game and follow the league daily. I like to think I’m very knowledgeable. My son played 14 minor hockey seasons. I coached 6 seasons and managed 5 and was a spectator for the last 3. He’s in an adult league now, at 21. He first laced them up at 6.
Loved it all!

Everyone knows Elvis was a massive hockey fan.
I wonder who he followed.
The southern-most teams at the time were the Atlanta Flames, who were only in existence from 1972-1980 (moved to Calgary, Alberta Canada 1980), the Washington Capitals ( established 1974 )and the Kansas City Scouts 1974-1976.
Following the Flames was tough, they didn’t have a local broadcaster until 1977-1978. Without TV exposure no wonder they only drew 10,000 fans their last couple years. Plus they were average and never won a playoff series. Within 6 years of the move to Calgary they’d won the Stanley Cup.
Following the Capitals was as equally difficult with no regional broadcasts until 1977-1978 as well. The Caps almost moved or folded those first couple of years with no tv exposure and a terrible on ice record. They hold the NHL record for fewest wins in a season, 8. (of 80 games played) their first season. They won 11 their second year. In 2018 the Caps won the Stanley Cup.
Probably the most likely team to follow would have been a little further north, the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas City, MO. But he might not have known they existed, almost nobody does , they only played two seasons - 1974-1976. They had tv exposure on the local NBC affiliate but with a two season record of only 27 wins out of 160 games they were total crap. Averaging 8,200 in a 17,000 seat arena, they relocated to Colorado in 1976-1977. (Who would move to New Jersey in 1982 and found success winning 3 Stanley Cups between 1995-2003).

No. What I said was "Everyone knows Elvis was a massive hockey fan."
I was being facetious, as the subsequent replies might have indicated.
Just a tad of whimsy.

I imagine they searched songs that had "Spring" in the title and this was the most uptempo one they found. That subtle humour often doesn’t come across in text.

In July 1975 while on stage in Niagara Falls, a fan gave him a Toronto Maple Leaf jersey. This is 100% true. I can’t locate the photo right now though…
