The Elvis as Cut by Boppin’ Bob Jones Thread

#1975785

Post by LesterB »

I have a good number of Elvis albums cut by Bob Jones and thought it would be useful for us to all share our thoughts with specific examples of his work including LPs, EPs and singles.

It is worth noting that on the Bob Jones Elvis compilations sometimes it is specific tracks that stand out.

I will start of with what I think is the most dynamic and exciting sounding Bob Jones Elvis pressing:

Sorry mate!

I've got a UK mono Pot Luck and a couple of later US stereo pressings (one orange label and maybe the other is black). Which ones do you have?

I'll have a listen to those other ones, compare and let you know what I think.

PS. Agree with you that the History of Rock sounds superb.

I was only bidding out of curiosity but would be very interested to get your thoughts on a comparison - I have the Indianapolis tan and black label - 1976/ 77.

Have you compared Kissin Cousins and Country to the Indianapolis pressings?

Glad you like History of Rock

What is the first Elvis release Bopin' Bob Jones worked on and what was the last? Was it 1982 with the EP Collection box set or even earlier?
And the last the excellent Essential Elvis Volume 2 (1988)? I can't remember, so anyone?
Maybe we can come to a chronological list for those who wish to track down these records, because "his" releases are excellent (sound wise) and are nowadays still very affordable.

Great selection. Very impressive to see he has been mastering Elvis' records for more than a decade (1979-1990). Over the years I have sold quite a few of these 80s reissues and Camdens to make space and budget for original US pressings. I will check out the ones I still own and I may add these Camdens and RCA Internationals to my record collection again.

Ok, so I want to start collecting these albums you all speak so highly of.

Where do I begin? I know I have a few in a collection that is currently in storage in North Carolina, but I want them now so, any suggestions/opinions would be greatly welcomed and/or appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I find this selection by EAP 35 very helpful.

Just received Loving You RCA International - been after this for ages.

Not only is the pressing dynamically punchy but the detail is incredible. This is so noticeable on some of the off mike ad-libbing and amazing detail of Lonesome Cowboy. This is a fantastic sounding analogue record.

I'm really pleased it's arrived and has lived up to expectations.

I've ordered Bob's Girls! Girls! Girls! today.

Great, I will check mine this evening. I may not have played those RCA International editions for decades.

Nice! I didn't know Boppin' Bob had a version of SFE.

The vinyl threads have cost me an absolute fortune. I speak to the postman more than my wife these days.
