Thank you for another great remaster project elvisalisellers. Was always hoping FTD would return to these songs and remaster all the released & unreleased songs for a 2cd set.

Note: Acoustic guitar comes in a lot earlier in comparsion to the alternate Venus mix (devoid of the White vocal)

One of my favouries from these sessions, though I can understand why it was left unreleased at the time. Tony Joe White's vocals blend good but not perfect with Elvis' and a duet on such an inimate song is a bit strange. The second part of the song where White is singing more kind of backgroud/harmony with Elvis works better - maybe they should have done the middle part in the same way. Tony Joe White's harmonica ist a nice touch. Sounds great in this remix!

Call me crazy, but I can't help but feel that the backing on this track (albeit nearly forty-five years ago) still sounds quite contemporary. It would interesting to see what Matt Ross-Spang could do with the original reels (not the original Hollywood '75 reels, but Felton's overdub reels) on this one. The banjo etc. sound good enough to be played on country radio today.

Thank you so much for the clean-up work on this one. I've always had a soft spot for this one, and now I can enjoy it even more with what you've done to the track. I appreciate your work on these and for sharing them on the Board.

Yes, the re-recording of "Susan When She Tried" sounds really pretty good. I would have preferred this at least over "Faded Love", "I'll Hold You In My Heart" and "After Loving You" on the LP from 1980.

Yes,one of my favorires from these JL leaked songs as well.
There are 2 versions but I dont remember the difference 🤷
Faded Love was never a favorite…not 40 years ago and not in 2024.
I liked it better on original 1971 Country release as it was much shorter
than the version we have on various compilations now.

Oh, I really like the original recording of "Faded Love" from the Elvis Country album (and also the unedited version), but the re-recording form 1980 is pretty weak (same goes for "I'll Hold You In My Heart" and "After Loving You" - I like the originals but not the re-recordings).

12. "Help Me" - possibly January 28, 1980 - vocal & basic track mix
Note: Core of rhythm track was likely recycled on October 14 - see mix below

13. "Help Me" (2) - October 14, 1980 (Gatlin Bothers vocal overdub)
Note: Original lead guitar (see mix above) was replaced along with a second guitar overdub

You're not crazy; Felton's 1980 choices remain contemporary. And elvisalisellers has shown already what can be done with these tracks which are only from a cassette. They're marvellous restorations too. Sony can use Matt Ross-Spang or another sympathetic producer to make these tracks breathe even more. I agree about 'Susan When She Tried.' That really shines after the audio skills from elvisalisellers. I wonder who the banjo player was on the track. On the other hand I wonder if the track would fit country radio today. The track would have bounced nicely during the 1990s, but now, maybe much less so. The R&B and pop resonances in many playlists today may mean programmers will see 'Susan' as not youthful enough to fit the current template.

You are probably correct.. In today's here today - gone tomorrow hit status, I doubt it could hit the radio market, but there's something about that song and arrangement that I like. I could see someone like Blake Shelton, Josh Turner or possibly Kenny Chesney making it a hit. Then again, I almost believe that Blake, Josh and Kenny's massive chart hit days are behind them as well. Without a doubt this is true for a mighty fine country singer from Tupelo, MS.

14. "Hey Jude" - January 28, 1980
Note: An additional guitar track and the original 1969 female backing vocal overdubs appear on FTD's, Too Much Monkey Business
First refrain of coda is missing from the two part cassette dubs

Looks like the only song that we haven’t heard yet (from RCA, FTD, Boot or Juan tape) is “And I Love You So” and that one remained without background vocals, just overdubs were laid. There were 3 other songs that Matrix numbers were assigned, but nothing was recorded (“Help Me Make It Through The Night”, “You Don’t Know Me”, “I Really Don’t Want To Know”).
Thanks to Keith’s excellent site for the info on these sessions.
