Re: What are you listening to right now?
A few years ago, I bought the following boxed set, with each disc dedicated to a different opera/classical singer, starting with an original album and then filled up with bonus tracks. Many of the discs are over 80 minutes, and to be honest it's too much to listen to one singer of this nature without a break, and without other voices, for nearly an hour and a half. So, at Christmas, I decided I needed to do something to make use of the 70+ hours of operatic highlights at my disposal. So, I ripped the whole box to the computers, and then ripped all the other opera highlights discs I had to the computer, from compilations of different works to single discs of highlights from one piece. Then, I made a list of all the operas I had excerpts from in chronological order of when they were written, and then set to work on putting together a 20 disc "history of opera" from Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in 1607 through to John Adams' Doctor Atomic from 2005. Some discs cover just a few years, the last one covers ninety - modern operas are much difficult to find in excerpted form!
Tonight, I just finished listening to the last disc, and have to say that the series of discs I've created is far more entertaining (to me) than the original boxed set that I used for much of the material. Over 300 operas are represented, many of which I've never encountered before - especially early works and modern works. My knowledge of the bit in the middle is pretty sound! And there's enough material left to do a "second sequence" if I fancy working on a volume 2 at some point!

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Good one here... Lennon & McCartney are almost, but not completely, omitted in this mix, whilst George's (who wrote the song) voice is notably upfront and sharper, Enjoy, my Friends

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Good Heavens !!! Listen carefully with your head phones to this AI merger (it's the only way to describe this thing) on Ticket to Ride (live 1965) and That Means a Lot. Awesome production...
Another AI mix here. This is clearer audio and to my ears, much better than the heavy-revered mix that first surfaced in 1996 on Anthology Volume 1 So AI software can remove reverb effect, interesting ?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
have some mixed feelings on this new AI production regarding The Beatles almighty 1966 "B" side record
"Rain" stripped-down certainly Rocks with the drums more prominent. But, cannot agree with omitting Harrison and McCartney harmonies.
another one here with backing vocals only:

Re: What are you listening to right now?
speaking of mighty B-sides, hows about "For Love" by Herman's Hermits (flip of "The Door Swings Both Ways").
They proved on this one record in 1966 that they could rock along with the best.
They also had Jimmy Page as the guest guitarist is what made the song sharper

Re: What are you listening to right now?
another mighty B-side, certainly an intense rock ballad, would be The Sound of Your Cry (flip of "It's Only Love" 1971 45)..

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Good one here...
This mix is includes stereo separated guitars (heard in the R channel) and drums for the first time in almost 60 years. Based a remix from the original 4-track which consisted of:
A: 1st lead and backing vocals
B: 2nd lead and backing vocals (doubletracking)
C: Drums, bass, acoustic guitars and bells
D: Orchestral instrumentation

Here's a recent-posted The Cat Walk by an outfit known as The Playboys - a nifty 60's instrumental.
Thread needs more obscure 1960's instrumentals, AYE

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Hey Beatles Fans, Just found and played multiple times this 1965 Beatles masterpiece - a fan made remix (features a more decisive stereo separation on Lennon, McCartney's and Harrison's vocals) on "In My Life".
Pretty fascinating stuff, this AI, AYE

More BEATLES Brilliance...
A new 2024 stereo mix, based on the excellent 2006 LOVE version. The 2023 blue album remix of this song is yet another disappointment. Unfortunately, the LOVE CD version has over a third of the song edited out. The intro has been altered and the ending of the song overlaps the next track.
