Re: What are you listening to right now?
hey, have a good look and listen to this under-rated masterpiece!!!!
a few days ago i asked David Fenton if he could do another of Elvis 1960's Hollywood era tracks especially the Jazzy-beat "City by Night". I'm happy to say that he's agreed to and followed this up.
One could ask for another 10-12 "Undubbed" material from 1967-1972 (half Hollywood - half 1970-1972 Nashville) - A lively theme Prequel to the "Our Memories of Elvis" Joan Deary's vision, AYE
Elvis Presley ''The City By Night'' no backing singers and rebalanced...

Re: What are you listening to right now?
LOL. i guess Elvis fans must be sick and tired of "See See Rider".
But this here three-pack are each differing arrangements! Think i'll take Lavern Baker version. She's exceptional.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
BOBSTER !!!!
Well, what can you say about one of the greatest except simply he's another iconic 60's maestro of the Singer/Songwriter's (like Neil)
These songs are just ageless!
In context we need more Bob Dylan in this thread, methinks...
Like a Rolling Stone and Lay Lady Lay - Mono 45 and Stereo Comparisons...

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Neil's instrumentals...
highlights the strength of his compositions because these musicians were legends in their own right and their cover versions are in diverse arrangements...

Re: What are you listening to right now?
OK question time has anyone purchased copy of the BEAR FAMILY Duane Eddy box set masteredby the one and only Boppin Bob Jones. I did so back in 2010. That label from Germany really set the bench mark on how Box sets should be produced.
Here's a look at it...
Duane Eddy - Twangin' From Phoenix To L.A. - The Jamie Years - BCD 15778 EK
5-CD Box-Set (LP-size) + 84-page hardcover book
GENRE Guitar Instrumentals / Rock 'n' Roll
TRACKS 148
PLAYING TIME 357:38
A truly epic 5-CD boxed set containing Duane Eddy's complete recordings for the JAMIE label.
This is one colossal hit-laden collection with 20 US and UK chart entries including Rebel Rouser, Cannonball,
Peter Gunn, Yep, Forty Miles Of Bad Road, Some Kinda Earthquake, Shazam! and Because They're Young.
There are 148 tracks including Eddy's first recording, Soda Fountain Girl by Jimmy (Delbridge) and Duane,
pre-JAMIE versions of Ramrod and Caravan and a clutch of rare vocal tracks by other artists all of which
feature Eddy's unmistakeable low-down fretwork.
The fabulous hardback book contains minutely detailed and insightful essays by Rob Finnis and Phoenixbased
music historian John P. Dixon together with a full discography by the set's original producer, the late
and much-missed Bob Jones. The photos too are beyond exceptional.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I don't know but I find these excellent. The King Creole album has been artificially converted into stereo numerous times by now, but this time I think they (ElvisMixer) got it right or almost anyway. The sound isn't shaky, I don't detect any loss of quality or too much compression (besides it being YT).
As it states it is 'created purely for listening pleasure only' and I'm thoroughly enjoying these. So bingo.

You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.
