Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
I got my copy yesterday....my advice is to avoid this at all costs, very poor almost mono sound. I actually don't think that this is a genuine Venus release.

Roger that. However, does it cost anything to not buy it?MIKEMORAN on Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:28 am wrote:I got my copy yesterday....my advice is to avoid this at all costs......
I, for one, hadn't planned to.

But now it appears they have advised it is being worked on. .A. C. van Kuijk on Mon Oct 14, 2019 5:37 am wrote:You people sound as if FTD has announced THE COMPLETE "BLUE HAWAII" SESSIONS. They have not!

Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
The music from Blue Hawaii is good and a relaxing and joyful experience for this fan. To have these songs in a session type release will really be fun. I am so glad to finally have this word "officially." Count me in on buying one or two copies of this one.

Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
It now seems this Venus release is a total rip off. They even use tags like "unknown take" for takes released by Sony...I read.Forget it. Looking forward to the real Mac Coy by FTD.

Hi there!! .
EIN is now saying that another source posted that the sound is not bad at all on the VENUS set.... . Bye for now .

Source: http://www.elvisinfonet.com/index.html'Mele Mai Ka Lani Mai 3 CD' - Another EIN reader who owns this new bootleg release says that he found it not as bad as EIN warned below, stating "It is not the usual 'Top Notch' sound of Venus, but it's not that bad that you could not listen to the session. The set is proceeded chronologically, that also makes sense and fun. No booklet. Although not everything is perfect, it is an extensive Blue Hawaii Sessions. In my view not wasted money with the best compilation of these recordings until today and for a fair price." - Karsten

Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
I understand that when it first came out, the price was lower than it is now. A friend of mine has it and said he is happy with it for the price he paid but he would not be so happy if he had paid the latest price. He said the sound is very good in places but not so good in others and that it is in mono. He said had he known that FTD were going to release their set shortly, he would not have bought the Venus one.

Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
"Jørgensen notes that FTD do not like to announce future releases anymore since this only makes bootleggers rush in to bang-out poorer quality copy-cat product."
Okay, that's perfectly understandable.
""We are normally working on a handful of these projects simultaneously" he adds."
Is that the reason why errors occured several times in the past on FTD releases?
"In this circumstance, where the bootleg is already out, EIN thinks it is a real positive that FTD let fans know their sessions product will be released in the near-future."
Ummm... did I miss something or is this a slight contradiction to what Ernst said?

Re: Blue Hawaii Sessions - FTD or Venus?
Sound quality is the issue though. There's no point buying (the majority) of this material again, unless there are sonic improvements, and the most likely source for this is FTD.luckyjackson1 on Tue Oct 15, 2019 2:00 pm wrote:Somehow I just have the fear creeping over me that if FTD will squeeze the complete "Blue Hawaii" sessions on an 3-Disc set, that there again will be quite some editing done.
As we already have two 2-CD sets for "G. I. Blues" it makes me wonder if the "Sessions" release will be also more than three discs? Maybe five?
This reminds me of how I spent a lot of money on that "Tulsa Records" five CD release decades back. Not a too bad release - except for the sound quality
Whilst I wasn't in agreement with FTD's approach to the Memphis sessions, as we know that existing takes, along with the masters have been omitted, if all available takes are included, then that would be enough for me.
There must be dialogue snippets from all sessions which have been edited for various reasons, as this material was never meant for release originally.
