What prediction was that?
I interpreted this as a reference to the inclusion of "Little Mama", but that was just my perception.

Thanks Sherif for holding the acetate for so long to the point it was destroyed when transferred! Don't you love the guy and all those dear collectors? :D They prefer to hold on to something until it's in the point of non-existence than sharing it. What a lovely attitude! Makes me think what else may have been lost thanks to this kind of thing.

It was not "destroyed when transferred." It was apparently wrecked after a digital copy was made. The owner made the mistake of entrusting the original acetate to someone who did not know what they were doing.

All indications are that "You're A Heartbreaker" will be a listenable, enjoyable live recording, one every devoted Elvis Presley fan will be pleased to hear.

And if one is a serious collector they would have made a tape copy to preserve it the way it was when aquired so if it
does fall apart you at least have the tape safety to fall back on.

I guess he didn't tape it. Pretty short sighted.

You wonder how many times this thing was played over and over again with no thought to preserving it. Stupid.

For it to be in such bad shape it must have been thru hell and back.

But let us wait, perhaps it's better than expected.

Ok, when and where can we look forward to sound samples?

Doc, back in 2007 you wrote: "Hanna apparently has a "Louisiana Hayride" acetate which includes "Little Mama," taken from the Saturday, April 2, 1955 broadcast. If not slotted for the FTD SUN box, that's a bummer indeed. There's a bit of a sad story involving the acetate, but at least the performance survives."

Apparently "Little Mama" on "Boy from Tupelo" is from March 5. Is it a new "discovery"?

Research between 2007 and 2012 yielded a more accurate dating.

Will there be section something like "making of" in "Boy from tupelo" book? A story about how Ernst came to discover new recordings, photos, people he met, new rumours etc? :)

so is the Sun material specically the ones mastered from records. Are they being redone for better sources or they just the ones from Elvis at Sun released in 2005.

I appreciate the technical wizardry perhaps required when it is stated that: "Some parts duplicated and edited to create near-complete performances", about a number of the rare tracks, and perhaps that will make them on a certain level more "enjoyable" when it comes to entertainment value; but in terms of historical appreciation I would rather hear them as they exist (with audio restoration of course). If a chorus is not repeated or something like that, so be it as far as I'm concerned. But I will not judge too harshly until I hear the result. I hope such edits are thoroughly explained in the book or notes though.

On the other hand, if it is certain that what Elvis performed during that recording was different then what is preserved on a damaged acetate or tape, I suppose a tasteful restoration does make some sense. In a perfect world perhaps we would be given the unedited segments as well as the edited ones, but I admit I'd probably listen to the restored versions more often, so again, I'll reserve judgement. Any other opinions on this?

Yeah...and this dumb probably played it himself at home and damaged it worse over and over.

People who got unissued Elvis 1953-55 material should understand they MUST release them ASAP...acetates & tapes are very very fragile and get as much worse as time goes by. Damn !

I see. Anyway, I get the impression that this digital transfer wasn't done by the "official means" then, which would be my point. Does Sherif Hanna considers himself a fan? Because I can't understand what goes through his head putting such a treasure in this situation if he's a fan. "Oh ho ho I have something precious that others don't!! Who cares if this gets destroyed? Yak Yak!".

Glad to hear that it'll be listenable, though. And still hoping that it gets a second, non-limited run.

Thank you, Blue River. Thank you, rjm. Thank you, Ken.

Now it is known that second studio version of "Tryin to get to you" exists and also "I got a woman"
"I Got A Woman" for sure !- SUN session tape - 1'20" tryout - incomplete.

Shelby Singleton was going to release it under the Charly Records label many years ago , but.....never happened then.

If it's true, so where is the recording? Losy or in private hands?

Greg1995, I think the correct term would be "existed" vs. "exists". This was one of the reels that was discarded by RCA in the late fifties. I think it is doubtful that we will ever hear this.

Hound Dog 2000, for all of Shelby Singleton's claims, it appears that he had very little to share with FTD for this set. I had hopes that an unreleased fragment or complete song like "I Got A Woman" would be found, but that does not appear to be the case.

From the FECC Sony News:

I was going by the Sony news section on this website.

It is an FTD release after all so it could be delayed even later than 'late August'!

Maybe delayed long enough to include the newly found "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" as an extra bonus :)

Some rather hateful and out of line comments being directed at Sherif Hanna here. He doesn't owe us (the fanbase) anything regarding something he rightfully owned. Be happy the audio is coming out, you ungrateful....

Why are people quoting the entire original post? Do you realise how big it is?

Actually, this was released officially on the excellent Bear Family "The Sun Country Years" 10 LP set around 1987. The recording was credited to (if I remember correctly) Scotty Moore and Jimmy Lott. The recording itself is Scotty's guitar reverb tape on the song. The vocal is buried deeply in the background, but a listen on headphones reveals that the vocalist is Elvis. The arrangement is very similar to the recording Elvis and the boys recorded in late 1956 for his second album.

Because the vocal is so far down in the mix on the version I have heard, I don't expect that we will hear Elvis very clearly on the song without a great deal of audio wizardry. However, we can always hope that the experts who worked on this project were able to improve the audibility of Elvis' vocal.

He's there, that's for sure!

Ironically, I posted this today on the other Boy From Tupelo topic:

The Bear Family set is still available, too.
