Out now is the new Rock Legends CD "Elvis Has Left The Building". As the title indicates, this beautifully packaged two-paneled deluxe digipack contains original radio- and television broadcasts from August 16th and 17th, 1977, reporting the death of Elvis Presley. On this 78+ minute release, you can follow the news as it happened first the unconfirmed rumours, then the confirmation from the hospital and Elvis' friends, the speculations about the cause of death, tributes from around the world, reactions from grieving fans, and a real "heartbreaker" the first interview with Elvis' father Vernon Presley at ca. 16.30pm on August 16th, only a few hours after Elvis' body had been found. On this release you can listen tothis unique interview in unedited form for the very first time.
Another highlight is a long excerpt from the "Elvis What Happened" press-conference (much more than what is usually used in the various documentaries), where Sonny West discusses the controversial book. We have also included a very special "bonustrack" an unreleased recording of Elvis backstage with several Japanese fans, recorded just minutes before the Midnight Show on August 9th, 1973. As private backstage recordings with Elvis are extremely rare, this is an amazing scoop. It's an interesting insight into the man to hear how he interacted with his fans he's very courteous and repeatedly thanks them for the gifts that they had brought along to Las Vegas for him. You even get an insight into the Colonel, as you can hear him shouting in the background repeatedly! A fascinating piece of "Presleyana". All recordings were digitally remastered with great care by Otto Meszaros, whose work on the Czech releases has been praised by many fans.
"Elvis Has Left The Building" is packaged very tastefully, with rare pics of Elvis, newspaper clippings from around the world reporting his death, photos from the funeral, and even the original White House statement about Elvis' death. This breathtaking deluxe digipack has to be seen to be believed, as it's a good example of superior Scandinavian artwork (designer Kenneth Dokkeberg). The theme behind this release is of course a sad one, but on the other hand it also shows how much Elvis was loved and respected all over the globe - a remarkable tribute to the greatest entertainer of the twentieth century. "Elvis Has Left The Building" is an essential and historic release that is a must for the collection of every Elvis fan.

"I would have given anything to design for Elvis..."
— Gianni Versace
To Elvis Presley, clothes were second in importance only to music. An avid
collector of garments, accessories, and costumes, many made just for him, Elvis
became was as much a fashion icon as a rock ‘n’ roll trendsetter. He loved
clothes and had an uncanny eye for what would shine on stage, and maintain his
sexy persona off stage. Elvis loved to be part of the process and often
conferred with his tailors, costumers, and accessory designers, working his
initials into their designs whenever possible! Featured in ELVIS FASHION- From
Memphis to Vegas are working sketches of costumes, and comments from favorite
designers like Nudie, the Rodeo Tailor, Vegas costumer-extraordinare Bill Belew,
50s Rat-Pack tailor Sy Devore, and the legendary Oscar-winning Edith Head, who
designed many of his film wardrobes. Also included is fascinating ephemera like
a record of his running tab at a Memphis jeweler, and invoices for clothing
described down to the minutest detail: “light-blue double-knit suit w/lattice
patterned jacket front in navy blue leather accented w/brass studs…lined in
patterned silk.”
Graceland gave author Julie Mundy unprecedented access to the Elvis Presley’s
costume archive and allowed her to select an incredible range of Elvis’s
famous jumpsuits, leather pants, embroidered and jeweled capes, and accessories
from hats to belts to custom boots. Mundy chronicles the development of Elvis’
taste, and his growth into a true fashion icon paralleled by his meteoric rise
to stardom. Multitudes of costumes from the Graceland collection were
photographed especially for this book, and will be enhanced by archival photos
of Elvis wearing them, both on stage and off.
Elvis’s velvety voice, smolderingly good looks, charisma, and personal style
all contributed to making him “The King of Rock ’n’ Roll.” Beloved by
millions, Elvis is known in every corner of the world and is one of the most
important and enduring figures ever in American popular culture.
A comprehensive look at the gorgeous clothes that were so much a part of what
made Elvis Elvis is long overdue. Stunningly designed, this book is as tasty a
package as Elvis was himself! An absolute must for Elvis Presley fans everywhere.
About the Author
Julie Mundy is a music journalist and the author of The Official Elvis
Presley Fan Club Commemorative Album (Virgin, ’97). In 1995 she was
commissioned to re-launch The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club Magazine, and Elvis
Monthly to be ready for the 20th anniversary of Elvis’ death. Julie Mundy
lives in London and is currently working on two book projects, one of which
celebrates the 100th anniversary of Las Vegas.

Scott said he didn't think much about the recording at the time, but it wasn't long before RCA heard about it and came calling. The record company put the song on the album "Elvis 2nd To None," which is scheduled for release on Oct. 7. The song was debuted Friday at Graceland, Presley's Memphis residence. Scott described the song as a rocker that tells the story of a carnival worker whose boss is constantly pressing him to work harder.
"I'm happy it's coming out," Scott said by telephone from New York. "I think the public should hear it because I think the public should hear everything this man does. This guy is in a class by himself."
Presley died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977.

A. I wasn't surprised that it would sell, but that we've sold 9 million worldwide now, that is a pleasant surprise. The company in general was very bullish about it. There was one guy who stood up and said, "We're going to sell 10 million of this." The rest of us looked at him and said, "I'm glad I didn't say that." He's eventually going to be proven right.
Q. Country Music magazine recently ran an interview with June Carter Cash in which she said Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had absolutely no idea what constituted good material or songs. Was he truly clueless or merely indifferent?
A. Parker was never there at the recording sessions. The only way he interfered - and it was a dramatic interference - was through the whole setup of Elvis music and publishing. . . . He fought to convince Elvis to only record songs from staff writers. Elvis was probably a little too nice on that issue, . . . well, not a little bit. The Colonel felt threatened by the great songwriters (Jerry) Leiber and (Mike) Stoller to the point where the Colonel made sure that the two great songs they'd written for "G.I. Blues" got kicked out of the movie.
Q. Was the Colonel an idiot?
A. I don't think he was an idiot, but he was unsympathetic to the feelings that people like you and I have about Elvis. He was all, all business. Where you can criticize the Colonel and Elvis was that it took them until 1968 to realize they had to do something else. They should have realized that in '64, '65. It was obvious at that time that each of those movie albums sold less than the one before. We would not have had to listen to "Frankie and Johnny" and "Harum Scarum" and "Easy Come, Easy Go."
Q. One of the problems you must have is that Elvis Presley recorded more horrendous junk than any other major recording artist - "He's Your Uncle, Not Your Dad," "Petunia the Gardener's Daughter"; we could go on and on. Do you just ignore that stuff?
A. We separate to a great extent between what is available for collectors and what is for the main marketplace. There is a major, major difference between Elvis or Sinatra from the time when you have artists who actually write their own material and thereby keep a consistent level of quality. There are several things that Frank Sinatra and Elvis have in common, but there are two things that are very, very important. One is that they both recorded "Old MacDonald." The second one is that they shouldn't have.
Q. What is it that made Elvis Presley a great singer? Was he a great singer?
A. The magic of Elvis Presley is that he had a very nice voice, but he didn't have the biggest voice in the world. Roy Hamilton had a bigger voice. Opera singers, obviously, have bigger voices. The uniqueness of Elvis was to take a song and make it believable. The best example of that, to me, is "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" If you just read those lyrics off a piece of paper, you'd say anyone who does that lyric is going to die somewhere. That's so over the top as a lyric, but you actually believe him when he sings it, and I think that's the magic of it.

For
those of you that dig Elvis' best years, there's a great new booklet & CD
titled "Elvis: In The Eye Of The Storm". It focuses on the years 1953
- 1956, and it contains dozens of newspaper & magazine clippings from those
years, the majority of which has never been reproduced since their original
publication. This includes reviews, articles, magazine covers and advertisements
("A Red Hot Star is born on RCA Victor Records!").
The
booklet also contains revealing interviews with Elvis' musicians Scotty Moore
and D.J. Fontana, memories of fans who saw Elvis on stage in 1954 - '55, and
rare EP covers from Europe. The icing on the cake are many rare Elvis pics, both
color and b&w. Some of the highlights are a section on Audubon Drive (which
contains many unpublished private pics), and a couple of color pics from the
Elvis & Ed Sullivan press-conference.
The enclosed CD contains several rare interviews from 1955 and '56, including, for the first time, the complete unedited 'TV Guide' interview from August 1956 - 28+ minutes!! This complete interview is fascinating to listen to, and it's quite clear that Elvis is getting increasingly annoyed with the questions!
Also
included are 10 Elvis mystery tracks from the Sun years, including 'Little Mama',
'Satisfied', 'We're Getting Closer To Being Apart', 'Uncle Pen' and 'Icecold
Love'. These tracks were recorded by Number Nine from London, who are regarded
by many as the best "early Elvis" sounding band. This great band has
toured with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana on several occasions. All tracks were
recorded on original Valve equipment from the fifties, and the band spent a
great deal of effort trying to figure out how Elvis would have performed these
titles. The result is a very authentic "Elvis 1955" sound - this is
really as close as it gets!

The "Memphis Sound" label comes with a new super VCD release of " Elvis In Concert " with several bonus tracks. The difference between a super video CD and a video CD is that the VCD is 352 x 240 lines and the SVCD is 480 x 480 lines. The quality is like a Laser disc according to the " Memphis Sound " producers.
Content : Intro / Elvis In Concert / Vernon Presley / Intro / Oh happy day (Rehearsal in Las Vegas Aug. 8, 70) / Little Sister ( Live in Las Vegas Aug. 12, 70 ) / A little less conversation - 2002 remix / A little less conversation - 1968 clip from film.
The content indicates that " Little Sister " is from August 12, 1970, but this is most likely the clip shown on MGM/Turner website when they released " That's The Way It Is - Special Edition " that was filmed at the August 11, 1970 midnight show. " Oh Happy Day " clip was equally featured on the same site back then.

Legitimate copies of ' The Trouble With Girls' and the original black & white version of ' Jailhouse Rock ' were released in Singapore last week. Elvis movies are extremely popular in Asia. All previous titles are completely sold-out with the exception of ' Change Of Habit ' and ' Blue Hawaii ' which can still be bought from various music shops. The only movies left unreleased on VCD are 'Live A Little, Love A Little' and ' It Happened At The World's Fair.' VCDs are more popular than DVDs in Asia because of its similar size to the normal CDs in jewel boxes.

A complete updated list of all the soundboard recordings known to exist. Informations on rehearsals. Some very interesting facts about the filming of " Elvis On Tour ", and although some of these facts has to be verified and confirmed, this book should give us the best overview on this movie with accurate details. On the "new" song rumor:
There will not be a "new" song on the new upcoming FTD "Southbend",
it will contain 3 bonus tracks but no decision has been made from the 200
songs available.
On the soundtrack releases:
FTD has the intention to release more soundtracks, depending the success of
the current release. The goal is to do this around Christmas. Eventually they
hope to release all soundtracks. Depending what RCA decides to do with their
catalogue FTD might consider re-releasing non-soundtrack albums.
On "On Tour":
Only Turner knows if there is going to be a DVD release, they own the rights,
but BMG will release more music on both the RCA and FTD label.
On the "Close Up" box-set:
The "stereo" tracks on the first CD are all binaural takes. The
seventies masters are the dubbed versions. The Live show, San Antonio, Tx. is
in Stereo.
On Live Concerts:
Jørgensen is looking into the release the complete "Aloha Dress
Rehearsal" 1973 ( fully remixed ). The Memphis show of 1974 ( Midsouth,
" Live On Stage in Memphis " ) is very unclear: in one line the

The publication date for " The Colonel " book by Alanna Nash is July 15th, 2003. Alanna Nash's THE COLONEL The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley attempts to solve one of the biggest riddles in the history of the music industry who was Colonel Tom Parker?
Little is known about Elvis' mentor, manager and manipulator. Nash, an Elvis expert--she was the first journalist to see Elvis' body after his death--and a personal friend of Colonel Tom Parker, goes deeper into the secrets surrounding the Colonel than any journalist before her. With over 300 new interviews, Nash traveled to Holland-where Parker fled after allegedly bludgeoning a young woman to death-to interview Parker's family. Nash examines Parker's status as an illegal alien, his desertion from the US army, his psychosis for which he was hospitalized, his decision to put Elvis in a long string of terrible movies designed to protect his own secret past, and his lack of paper trail--he had no FBI, INS or CIA files and no marriage license.
Nash proves that the only figure in American popular culture as fascinating as Elvis is the man who made Elvis-Colonel Tom Parker.
