The next book from Elvis Unlimited will be titled Elvis
Is Back. It will be made like the two “Inside” boxes. The book will be
thicker and the dvd will be much longer than in the two previous boxes.
Elvis Is Back will be about Elvis’ return to the
music scene in 1960. This year was a bittersweet one for Elvis. He was being
discharged from the Army. Music had changed in two years and he was a little
insecure about his music career. Yet he enters the sessions with such ambition
and determination. He delivers a new mature diverse voice. “It's Now Or
Never” and “Surrender” are truly challenging for Elvis. He proofs himself
to be a truly talented singer and not just a flash in the pan. These recording
sessions will forever stand out in Elvis’ history.
It’s almost as if Elvis hit the ground running upon
his return. The Colonel had been busy preparing for Elvis' return for a very
long time. Not only were the recording sessions lined up, an appearance on the
ABC televised Frank Sinatra Special and the filming for “G.I. Blues” were
immediately following.
His appearance on the Sinatra Special is warmly
received by the public. Elvis innocently steals the show from Sinatra. Yet the
repertoire between the two performers is very apparent. “G.I. Blues” is a
very successful film for Elvis although Elvis hates being in uniform again.
During this year, Elvis is also experiencing many
changes in his personal life. Elvis has met Priscilla while in Germany. But he
returns to his long time girlfriend Anita Wood. They continue their relationship
where it left off before Elvis left for Germany. Vernon marries Dee, which is
hard on Elvis because of the loss of his mother. Elvis also brings many of his
friends from Germany home and the Memphis Mafia is formed.
But still the most important thing during the year 1960
is the amazing recording sessions. We have two incredible albums from this year,
“Elvis Is Back” and “His Hand In Mine.” Elvis truly proves his ability
as a performer. He conquers every challenge he is faced with and proves Elvis is
back!
Elvis Is Back will present many never before seen
pictures from this period. There will even be some very interesting ones from
the filming of G.I. Blues. Those were not used in the Inside G.I. Blues book.
Elvis Is Back will be released in mid May, 2007.

We received several e-mails concerning our Forum. We were the ones who decided to shut it down as we've got simply tired of the fights going on there. This is not pleasant for us to receive complaints or have to check the Forum all the time because there is something nasty going on.
Our first idea was to close it for good but we changed our minds for the time being .We do expect the fighting and bickering to stop permanently. It will have to since we won't have a high degree of tolerance.
The Forum will be active within the next 48 hours. Besides the two administrators and The Boss ( moderator ) we will add an extra moderator. He is well known on our forum as PEP. We do expect these moderators will be treated with respect.

The 1974 “Elvis Summer Festival” receives 35 pages of in-depth coverage including the Opening Night set list shakeup, Elvis’ use of the “n” word in response to a heckler on 27th August, launching of the “f” bomb on 30th August, The Painted Statue Dialogue, his incorporation of double entendre into the act e.g. the X-Rated film “Deep Throat”, feminine hygiene products, braces & fellatio, a cunninglus bit involving Mr. Gospel Music and much, much more.
The Drugs Dialogue is dissected over a number of chapters and Fort Baxter’s “Desert Storm” 2 CD set receives an incredible 30 pages of exhaustive analysis.
You’ll be intrigued with the context in which Elvis’ ex-wife yelled out (from The Presley booth) a reference to his manhood! Show tapes reveal Cilla was actually the aggressor! Some folks think Elvis embarrassed her with The Priscilla Dialogue; the fact is he acted honourably with a touch of humour to defend her reputation against vicious fan gossip.
Dennis Berry travelled to Las Vegas with The OEPFC of Great Britain in August 1974 and for the Closing Show, he and two British fans tipped $30.00 for prime seats at the end of the ramp – mere feet from their hero. In addition to writing two articles for this project, “How Can It Get Better Than This?” and “Elvis’ Voice”, Mr. Berry sat for a five-hour interview. His memories of The King’s fantastic performance on 2nd September 1974 will leave you gobsmacked and confirm that the lovely Anne E. Nixon’s “Vegas ’74 Revisited” piece is spot on.
The legendary Phil Gelormine, publisher of the original Elvis World, opened up his collection of previously unseen images from Cole Field House. In addition to the back cover, four more of his shots will be featured in a special preview of the forthcoming soft cover “Elvis Presley – College Park: The Revelation of a Hoax!”
Invaluable contributions were also made by photographers Bob Heis and Keith Alverson, Graceland Insiders Jeanne Pellicani and Ginette Lefebvre, lifelong British fan Jackie McCaffery who wrote “If You Think You Know Elvis, You Don’t”, Elvis scholar Mike Eder and Annemarie Swarts (President of the EPFC of Africa) who wrote “Elvis – My Inspiration”.

Dear Elvis fans and collectors. My name is Joe Russo and I reside in the New York/Tri-state area.
In addition to being a life-long Elvis fan and musician, I have also published three books and written countless contibutions to various Elvis-related sites and publications over the years.
At the encouragement of fellow Elvis Squad contributor Steve Barile ( Barile's Alternate Take ) , and our glorious host the For Elvis CD Collectors Only website, I have decided to dedicate some of my insight and Elvis passion to this new column, fittingly titled ELVIS....STRAIGHT UP!
Occasionally I will review product and music releases, but the column will vary from personal rants , recollections and opinions to commentary on whatever might be the current hot topic of the Elvis world. I would like to state up-front that I shoot from the hip and that my opinions and writings will usually be very straight-forward and sometimes blazingly direct.
I invite questions, comments and contributions from any and all Elvis fans worldwide and I may always be contacted directly at epshots@yahoo.com
Thank you!

After Elvis' death, Mr. Hodge performed at shows dedicated to Elvis, including a March 2005 appearance at Decatur's Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts. He also wrote "Elvis 'N Me," which Castle Books published in 1988. Elvis' bodyguard, Sonny West, said in a DAILY interview that after Elvis' death, he and Mr. Hodge went 27 years without seeing each other. Then they met in Decatur at West's one-man show, "Memories of Elvis." "He walked up, shook my hand, and said, 'It's been too long, Sonny. I'll tell you right now, if he (Elvis) was watching us, he'd want us to get together, because where he's at now, he's nothing but love,' " West recalled.
Although Mr. Hodge lived at Graceland, he returned to Decatur to visit his parents' Jackson Street home. He told THE DAILY in 1982 that "when you come back to Decatur, there are two things you have to have: Bob Gibson's barbecue and a C.F. Penn hamburger." Now the entertainment industry has lost a man who worked to keep Elvis' memory alive.
Cancer
Mr. Hodge died of cancer at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
Fans are posting tributes to Mr. Hodge on Elvis Web sites. A Yahoo site had 81 messages as of Saturday night, including a message from one fan who wrote, "May God bless your soul, Charlie. Now you're together again with your true friend Elvis."
That seems fitting, since in his book about Elvis, Mr. Hodge wrote, "Remembering Elvis for the purpose of writing this book, has created loneliness in me like a torment."

On November 1st, 2005 from J.A.T. Publishing comes Elvis The Documentaries. Joseph Tunzi has put together a beautiful 136-page photo journal that will take you into Elvis Presley's two acclaimed documentaries, including That's The Way It Is, and Golden Globe winner Elvis On Tour.
We were lucky to obtain earlier this week a preview copy of his upcoming book. This project contains about 228 pictures, some memorabilia pages, documents related to these two movies, details on the studio sessions, rehearsals, live recordings and filmings of these two documentaries. The text part of the book is similar to '' Sessions III '' in its presentation and has been updated.
The layout of the book is different than previous books from J.A.T. Publishing and overall quite nice I may add. There's also some additions to the book since it contains a nice unpublished publicity photograph from the movie '' Change Of Habit ''. The section on the movie '' T.T.W.I.I. '' is about 64 pages and features photographs from all the rehearsals and all the shows up to August 14th, 1970 midnight show excepted for the August 13th, 1970 midnight show. This section of the book is completed with photographs of the first show of the September 1970 tour in Phoenix, AZ.
The '' Elvis On Tour '' section features as well numerous pictures taken during the filming of this project. There are shots from different locations such as Hampton Rds, VA. evening show, Richmond, VA, Indianapolis, IN, Greensboro, NC, Macon ,GA ( both shows ), Jacksonville, FL ( both shows ), San Antonio, TX, Albuquerque, NM and finally some from the August 4th, 1972 opening and August 5th, 1972 in Las Vegas.
Elvis The Documentaries has some pictures we have seen before ( not that many though ) but fitting perfectly into the concept of this project, the front cover shot used on the album '' That's The Way It Is '' being a good example here. However a lot of captures are seen for the very first time, and nicely reproduced on a good quality glossy paper. The color section at the end has photos from both projects. It will make a nice addition to your book collection, and moreover a handy reference book pertaining to these two great projects into Elvis' career and legacy.
Elvis The Documentaries will be available through this website. You can also order and obtain more details on this book directly from their website at www.jatpublishing.com .

"I'm on a small label right now making some noise," said the brash, dark-haired kid. "But if I get a recording contract with a major company, I want you to back me up."
The year was 1955. The little-known youngster was Elvis Presley, making a backstage pitch to Gordon Stoker, whose Jordanaires quartet had just finished backing up Eddy Arnold at a show in Memphis.
"Nobody had heard of Elvis Presley," Stoker, now 80, recalled. "But apparently he was impressed with our rendition of 'Peace in the Valley' because his first love was always gospel, you know. He had listened to us on the Grand Ole Opry where we were the first white quartet to sing spirituals and his music was influenced by that too."
The collaboration took off and the Jordanaires ultimately sang back-up on some of Elvis's biggest hits including "Don't Be Cruel" and "Jailhouse Rock".
The quartet also sang back-up for Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Brenda Lee, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton -- even the Beatles' Ringo Starr.
Although they are hardly household names themselves, they have recorded with an estimated 2,500 different artists and have sung on more Top 10 records than any other vocal group in history, culminating in record sales of more than $2.6 billion.
Looking back on this career, Stoker lounged in the old RCA studio where Presley put out those first albums on Nashville's famed "Music Row." His gaze lingered on the somewhat battered 1949 Steinway, the recording equipment, the instruments, the straight-back chairs and the black and white photos on the wall taken when Presley and his entourage were all so very young.
It was almost as if they had left on a break from a session.
Stoker remembers being surprised a year after meeting Presley when the "noise" he spoke of making at Sun Records in Memphis had landed him a contract with RCA. By that time, the Jordanaires, who had formed their quartet in 1948 in Springfield, Missouri, were a fixture in Nashville.
ELVIS HAD A REQUEST
Country star Chet Atkins, who was producing Presley's first RCA record, told Stoker that the young fellow had asked for the Jordanaires to sing back-up.
"Chet didn't think the kid would go anywhere in the music business," said Stoker. "He said that Elvis was just a long-haired kid who was a passing fancy and he called me in to sing back-up with Ben and Brock Speer on the session.
"It wasn't that we had anything against the Speers," said Stoker, "but in music, meshing harmonies and styles can be tricky. But I went over to the studio and Elvis asked where the rest of the Jordanaires were and was disappointed that they weren't there. Four months later, Chet brought in the Speers again to join me in backing up Presley on 'I Want You, I Need You, I Love You', which was a big hit."
At that point, Elvis insisted not only on the Jordanaires on all future sessions but also their name on his album -- an unusual move since no backing musicians, producers or engineers were given credit on labels then.
This time he got his way. The long-haired kid was a star with enough clout to overrule Atkins, then a powerhouse in the business.
Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, "told Chet that when Elvis asks for someone, Elvis gets them," Stoker recalled. And, he added, "to the day he died, Elvis didn't like Chet."
It was the beginning of a 14-year relationship during which the Jordanaires provided back-up on "Don't Be Cruel", "All Shook Up", "Jailhouse Rock", "Can't Help Falling in Love" and numerous other Presley hits.
It lasted until Presley based his career in Las Vegas and the Jordanaires declined to leave their roots in Nashville for the bright lights of the gambling mecca.
Was it a hard decision to make?
"Well," drawled the white-haired Stoker who sees nothing unusual about his continuing to sing harmony at the age of 80 for the biggest artists in the business. "Not really. We could have gone with Elvis to Las Vegas with our careers tied to his but it made more sense for us to stay here and make music with just about everyone in the business. So that's what we did."
Presley died in Memphis in 1977 at the age of 42.
STILL ON THE ROAD
The Jordanaires went on to back up other singers so successfully that they are still cutting records and performing in their own shows, now members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
They take on new challenges, just releasing their first bluegrass album titled "Believe", which contains 26 hymns including four new ones written specifically for the project. The album features a Presley favourite, "Angel Band".
Through the years several members of the original group have died and been replaced. First tenor Stoker joined in 1950. Ray Walker became a member eight years later. Other current members are Louis Nunley and Curtis Young.
"We've played to a quarter of a million people in Canada during the past two years," said Stoker. "We do between 30 and 35 shows a year here in this country and we can't keep up with the requests for more."
"Yeah," said Walker. "I think people have found out that we're not dead."

This is an absolutely unique and extraordinary find, historically and culturally. Elvis's recording career really began in 1954 at Sun Records in Memphis with the famous producer Sam Phillips. Out of those sessions came "Heartbreak Hotel," "Don't be Cruel, "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Love Me Tender," among others. It was Sam Phillip's vision to create a complete fusion between white country music, and black blues. In Elvis (the Atomic powered singer, as he came to be billed), he had found the perfect instrument to disseminate the new art form. No one had ever seen or heard anyone like him.
The sessions were characterized by an edgy nervous drumming, white session players like Scotty Moore and Bill Black tore out all the stops, and Elvis, when it came to the Arthur Crudup Song "That's All Right", went on full attack, turning it inside out. Phillips knew they had something. Elvis' success caught many old hands unaware. They were dumfounded when Presley occupied the No. 1 singles spot on the charts for 19 weeks in 1956, and then both EPs went to number one. Next, Colonel Parker engineered the buy-out of Elvis' Sun contract by RCA. There was an initial session in New York, and by September 1956, Elvis was recording for RCA at Radio Recorders on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, one of only two studios in LA at that time. The sessions ranged from September 1956, to September 1957, one of the most creative periods in his career. The engineer for all of his Hollywood sessions was the best man on the West Coast, the legendary Thorne Nogar, who happened to be the father of our consignor. These sessions were highly important and 1956 and 1957 were two of the most key years in Elvis' rapid ascent to superstardom.
The way the sessions worked was this. There was no multi-tracking in 1956 and
all the recordings are mono. Elvis would sing into a single microphone the
signal going directly to the reel to reel tape. Hogar would then cut and splice
together the tape and send the finished product to New York for mastering. Once
the tapes left Hogar's hands there were no more changes possible, in New York or
anyway else. That was the way the record would be released. New York wanted the
tapes immediately as they were done, and would often have a record out within a
few days. With the sessions barely begun Hogar heard back from New York that
they liked the beginning of one take and the end of another. His response "too
bad, that's on the cutting room floor." From that moment on, Hogar set up
an identical deck and made two simultaneous originals of every take, one to cut
together and send to RCA headquarters, and the other for insurance. What we have
here are the 'insurance' tapes.
A full set of originals, completely unmolested. Raw footage, with awesome sound quality including conversations and comments between the tracks. Essentially a clean and perfect record of everything that transpired in the studio, between the engineer, the producer, Elvis and the session players. This record exists no where else and, as such this really is an extraordinary find. The tapes are all in original boxes, and contain session labels indicating the date, the personnel, the titles and other identifying information. There are many takes that became hits. There are, over the 6 tapes some 57 tracks, over 2 hours, including the entire "Elvis Christmas Album", with "Blue Christmas", there's "Jailhouse Rock," "Long Tall Sally," "All Shook Up," "Blueberry Hill," "Teddy Bear," "Love Me," and many others, a complete list of the 57 tracks is available on request. These are "Radio Recorders," tape numbers 349-354, and some of these actual tapes are depicted in Jorgensen's "Reconsider Baby: The Definitive Elvis Sessionography," Pierian Press, 1986. To hear a 23-year old Elvis direct to tape in this 1st generation state is amazing. Nevermind the fact that this is a one-only original group of sessions. With this lot is a copy of a letter to the consignor from Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. in which the Director of Entertainment and Music Publishing indicates that the recordings may be sold, but that music rights reside with BMG/RCA. But although they have the rights, without these recordings only the purchaser may enjoy what is on these tapes. A Signed printed photograph is also included "To Barby from Elvis Presely" which Thorne had Elvis sign for his daughter.

BONN, Germany (AFP) - The two years that Elvis Presley spent in Germany as the most famous GI in history are the subject of a new exhibition opening here on Sunday. The organisers are putting on show 300 items from Presley's stay in Friedberg, which left the sleepy town "All Shook Up", to quote one of the King's best-known songs.
Fans can see the military-issue bag Elvis was carrying when he arrived in the northern port of Bremerhaven in 1958 to begin his military service, the partially reconstructed barracks hut where he had his regulation army haircut, or the pink Cadillac he drove on days off.The exhibition also highlights that Germany played an important role in Presley's life -- it was there that he met Priscilla, his future wife and the mother of his only child, Lisa Marie. Presley even moved his father and his grandmother into a house in Bad Neuheim, a small town near to the military camp where he was stationed. The deputy mayor of Friedberg, Michael Keller, recalled earlier this year how Presley's arrival electrified the locals. "It was rock 'n' roll and the PX shops with American products and a whole new image for Friedberg -- very exciting," he said.

I would first like to say thank you to the many fans who ordered and to all the nice comments, it is really appreciated . I would like to address the issue of mistakes in the publishing business and in a book that is 656 pages, let alone Elvis Presley's recording sessions. We try our best to get as many typos and gremlins out of there and some things we changed didn't get changed, this is another modern day problem with the computer age, it really has nothing to do with time as this is a constant moving and changing subject and this is part of the reason for typos and mistakes also many words, numbers, etc,etc get jumped around in layout, typesetting and creative design is part of the business, you can proof read till your blue in the face but these things still happen, anyone who has done a book knows this, especially a book of this magnitude. In closing we also know that none of these typos compared to what we have right and new info presented would amount to a hill of beans and in no way im-pedes our desire to bring the fans one of the most exciting books in recent memory ,as one fan stated to us, and I am very proud of our staff that contibuted to this work for bringing forth a book that as time goes will prove to be indispensable.
The great thing in the Publishing business and as minor as they are, we can correct our mistakes and we will do this. In life we all make them everyday and thank God we do, we become better human beings because of it. A mans errors are what make him amiable ..GOETHE...Great errors seldom originate but with men of great minds.. PETRARCH.. WWW.JATPUBLISHING.COM would be glad to service you on your book request and/ or comments..all your questions will be answered on this web-site as we plan a unique interview.

Most of the original performing line-up are from Presley's former band, The TCB (Taking Care of Business) Band, and back-up singing groups The Imperials, The Stamps and The Sweet Inspirations. In a phone interview on Tuesday (17 August 2004) from Memphis, Joe Guercio, the concert's musical director who directed and conducted Presley's concerts from 1970 to 1977.who has worked with big names like Diana Ross, Gladys Knight and Barbra Streisand, said he believes that Presley's appeal transcends age.
In fact, he did not have a strong impression of the singer prior to working with him, but became an instant convert after they met in the studio for their first rehearsals in 1970. 'After five minutes with him, it was obvious that Elvis had total control of the band and there was this charisma and energy about him. And that's what his shows were all about,' said Guercio, 65. Even then, he was initially sceptical about the concept of the current show when the idea was proposed back in 1997 as a way to mark the 20th anniversary of Presley's death. 'We had not seen these musicians in years, some since 1970. And I was thinking to myself: 'Okay, a lot of old people are going to walk in.' 'But once we started, it all just happened again and I realised that nothing has really changed.' The chemistry between band members such as guitarist James Burton and drummer Ronnie Tutt was intact. It even led to a teary-eyed occasion when they were practising Bridge Over Troubled Water. 'Some of the girls started getting emotional when we were halfway through it,' Guercio recalled. 'We had to take a five-minute break to get everyone back again.'
The current touring show, he said, is the next best thing to experiencing Elvis live for overseas fans, especially since the singer only performed five shows outside the US during his lifetime. These were in the Canadian cities of Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa in 1957. The show's producer, Stig Edgren, said that the tour group is committed to making the Elvis experience as authentic as possible. The current tour involved six months of meticulous hard work. 'We started with his best concerts and basically picked his best numbers to use for the show,' he said. Songs include Love Me Tender, Heartbreak Hotel and Can't Help Falling In Love plus a never seen before rare footage of Are You Lonesome Tonight from That's The Way It Is.. JUDGING by ticket sales, there is still an audience in Singapore hungry for Elvis nostalgia. Tickets, priced between $100 and $300 tickets were snapped up, said Singapore events organiser Panpac Events Management.
WK Koo, chief operating officer for Panpac Media Group, said the company had brought in the show because it wanted to give Singaporeans the chance to experience an 'exhilarating' combo of modern technology and classic hits. Still, some fans may be deterred from going to the Elvis concert because of the exorbitant ticket prices. Engineer George Ong, 27, is one ardent Presley fan did not attend the event. Ong, who has a collection of Presley albums from the 1950s to the 1970s, said the tickets were just too costly for him. But a Panpac spokesman explained that the tickets were priced high because of the hi-tech equipment required for the show. But there are other fans like Thomas Forster, 39, director of the private wealth management division in a foreign bank, who made the special trip to relive Elvis all over again.
'For a fan, this is an ultimate dream come true,' said the German, who will
be going to the concert with his Singaporean wife.
He said he had watched the touring concert a number of times in the US and
Australia over the past few years, and the show was really superb and most
exciting.
'The way the musicians interact with Elvis on screen is so natural that you
can feel the love in the arena,' he said.
As the King himself sang in Love Me Tender: 'I'll be yours through all the
years, till the end of time.'

With the release of the CD Cold Night In Nashville, a compilation that focuses on what was to be the future direction of Elvis Presley's recording career. We thought that it would be interesting to have some insight on the cancelled session of January 1977. Alan Rush is a composer / musician from Nashville,TN and one of his song ( Yes I do ) was chosen for Elvis to record at this session. This interview might shed some light on the songs mentioned as '' positively chosen '' to record and other facts related to what happened exactly in January 1977.

M Moshe Malamud, President of the Morgan Mint, unveiled the collection. It consists of official legal tender postage stamp sheets from the governments of Grenada and The Gambia, as well as a genuine U.S. Silver Dollar that has been officially colorized by the Morgan Mint. The collection is authorized by the issuing governments, Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises. Each sheet of official legal tender stamps features classic images of Elvis. The stamps are legal for postage in the nations of issue and are recognized by every postal authority in the world, including the United States. Unlike the Elvis stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service over a decade ago, however, these stamps are limited editions. Just a fraction of the stamp sheets have been set aside for this unique collection.
The U.S. Silver Dollar was issued by the United States Mint under an Act of Congress and features a rare archival image of Elvis, together with the caption "He Dared to Rock" and Elvis' official facsimile signature. The coin contains one full ounce of pure silver.
Based on the overwhelming popularity of Elvis Presley memorabilia, Malamud expects this collection to sell out quickly. "The U.S. Elvis stamp was the best-selling commemorative in history," said Malamud, "but this 50th anniversary collection is being released in a shockingly small edition of just thousands. I encourage all collectors to get theirs early, before they sell out."
The stamps and coins release was organized by the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corp. (IGPC), the world's largest postal authority representing over 75 client nations in areas of posts and treasury.

COLD NIGHT IN NASHVILLE
The
First Release From J.A.T. Records!
August
24th,
2004 marks the launching date of a new independent label J.A.T. Records. Formed
by Joseph Tunzi, the label will release the CD Cold Night In Nashville, a
compilation that focuses on what was to be the future direction of Elvis Presley's
recording career.
J.A.T.
Publishing has included bonus CDs with four of their acclaimed publications. One
of the few labels that will attempt to replicate the warmth of vinyl, Cold Night
In Nashville has the natural ambience that made the Elvis era so special.
Cold
Night In Nashville has ten
terrific selections, five of which are the original demo's that are
the ones actually heard by Elvis. These tracks along with one of Elvis'
favorites “Rainy Night In Georgia” would have constituted part of a
remarkable album. Although Elvis does not sing the tunes, Cold Night In
Nashville shows off Presley's unparalleled ability to pick classic material.
Chicago (August 5th) - In January 1977 Elvis Presley flew to Nashville to finish his Moody Blue LP at Creative Workshop studios. Unforeseen circumstances made Elvis cancel these sessions, but he still intended to record the new material for future release. While he died before he could begin the new sessions, six songs had already been selected. Cold Night In Nashville gathers together these tracks for the first time.
Cold
Night In Nashville is
one of the rare collections that let’s you explore the music inside and out.
Two versions of “Rainy Night In Georgia” and “Energy” are included. Like
all of the other tracks, a version by the composer is featured, but for these
two tracks we also get the opportunity to hear a commercially released version.
Adding even more value to this feature is that in the case of Brook Benton’s
hit rendering of “Rainy Night In Georgia”, Cold
Night In Nashville
spotlights a rare alternate take. Also included are two bonus tracks which
feature the original demo’s for two of Elvis’ most contemporaneous rock
songs “Way Down” and “I’ve Got A Feelin’ In My Body”. Composed by
Layng Martine Jr. and Dennis Linde respectively, both were songwriters Elvis
held in the highest regard. With Dennis Linde’s “By Day, By Day” and Layng
Martine Jr.’s “Let Me On” included among Elvis’ selection of new songs,
it is fascinating to hear how his final masters differed from these
authors earlier submissions.
Even
if Elvis did not get to record his six selections personally, they reveal that
his growth as an artist was still thriving at the time of his untimely death.
Even if one ignores its historical signifigence, Cold Night In Nashville
stands up as a great collection of music. This various artists release features:
“By
Day, By Day” – Dennis Linde, “Rainy Night In Georgia” – Brook Benton,
“Energy” – Tommy Roe ,“That's What You Do To Me” – Bob Morrison,
“Way Down” - Layng Martine Jr., “Yes I Do” – Alan Rush, “Let Me
On” - Layng Martine Jr., “Energy” – Bob Morrison ,“Rainy Night In
Georgia” – Tony Joe White, “I've Got A Feelin' In My Body” – Dennis
Linde
(J.AT. Records 72504 Cold Night In Nashville $15.99)

Elvis Unlimited will release soon a new book and you can read the details hereunder.
Elvis is said to be the most photographed man in history. If not the most photographed, he is certainly one of the most photographed anyway. From every angle and corner, Elvis has been exposed, "recycled" and captured, almost from the day he first stepped in at Sun in Memphis, to record that little single for his beloved mother - or from the day he redefined popular music. Since then, every moment and movement of his life and career has almost been captured on film. The result an enormous collection of Elvis photos spread around the World. But what was missing in that huge collection - for a big deal - was some crucial information of what, whom and who was seen on the pictures. "Who is Elvis standing with on that pictures?" you have probably asked yourself a hundred times. That problem has now been solved.
Elvis' Magnetism For the many fans that actually met Elvis personally or saw him at concerts, it was a revelation seeing Elvis' powerful and prolific character. For the many Elvis fans who didn't caught a glimpse of the King - likely the biggest part - it is still a revelation seeing him on pictures and feeling the fascinating magnetism and mysterious charisma of Elvis. Some of those many thousands of photos spread around the World are well known to many Elvis' fans, thanks to the thousands of books written about the man. Some of the most famous - and perhaps most bizarre and controversial of the history of popular music - being the ones taken in the Oval office at the White House in December 1970. It's of course Elvis' meeting with former President Richard M. Nixon.
At the time being, it was a meeting of probably the country's (and the World's) two most prominent household names for every American citizen. To this day the pictures that captured the event, is still as fascinating, as they were back then. They're simply become household-pictures for every Elvis fan around.
Not Alone
But they're not alone. Elvis was also captured with other personalities like Nixon. He was photographed together with Frank Sinatra, Muhammed Ali, Glen Campbell, Bill Haley, Dean Martin and Sophia Loren among many, many others. All of which today is considered to be household pictures as well, in the enormous collection of Elvis snapshots taken during his life. But sometimes you've probably caught a glimpse of Elvis with someone else on a picture but you never knew who it was? If so, you have the chance to learn a lot more about these other - not to famous - personalities. Names like Tempest Storm, Imogene Coco, Dorothy Harmony, Gary Merrill and Hedda Hopper. You can read a lot more about them and many others, their meeting and connection to Elvis, in the detailed new book titled "Elvis And Other Celebrities - Candid Favourite Shots", released through Elvis Unlimited very soon.
First A-Z Book
The new book is not supposed to be a new photo book, with many rare and unpublished photos, even though some are really rare. Instead it's the first ever A-Z book, to sum up all the details of every personality Elvis met in his life, in a compact form with a picture of Elvis and the person written about. At least an attempt to do so. A book terribly missed for every Elvis fan around.

CBS is whipping up a big hunk of burnin' love for the King of Rock 'n Roll a new four-hour movie about Elvis Presley. The film, tentatively titled "Elvis," will be the first-ever TV movie to use the master recordings of some of Presley's biggest hits, according to Variety.
It's slated to air sometime next season, presumably during a sweeps period. The actor who will play Elvis has not yet been cast. But co-producer Howard Braunstein says the most important element for going forward with the film was getting Presley's estate involved.
"We thought that if you're going to do this right, you just can't do it without their cooperation," said Braunstein. "They're going to open their archives for us, and that means we really get first-hand information about his life rather than just some biography."
Past TV projects about Presley have used Elvis sound-alikes to record the King's songs, while individual songs have been licensed for some feature film soundtracks. "When our Elvis actor opens up his mouth, it'll be Elvis' voice that comes out," said co-producer Robert Greenblatt. The producers are also promising a "warts and all" version of Presley's story, despite the cooperation of the singer's estate. "The estate understands that you need to tell the true version of his story," says Braunstein. "And hopefully, with access to the archives, we can learn all sorts of new and provocative things.
"The estate is not afraid of doing the darker side [of Presley]," says Braunstein. "It just wants it done with class and integrity, like. ..[2001's] Judy Garland [made for-TV] movie."
Although there have been many Elvis TV movies and feature films in the past, Braunstein thinks there's still room for another King-themed project. The film's producers say that "Elvis" will not follow the singer's whole life, but will focus on just one part of it. However, they are not sure which part yet. Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42 from a heart attack.

Fine article in the new ICE Magazine,
in which Ernst discusses the new CD "Elvis At Sun." The article
proclaims the CD to be the "go-to disc for collectors and mainstream
consumers alike who simply want to hear the brilliant first phase of Elvis'
career."
Ernst is quoted as saying, "We've spent the better part of a year restoring
every single one of these. Every one of those 19 tracks will sound better than
you've ever heard them before. That's very hard to tell people, because we say
that on every release (laughing). But this time, it really is true...I've been
working with an English and a Swedish (expert), and we've gone through every one
of them, hand-corrected every mistake, readjusted the EQ's until we were
silly...all to get close to what the original Sun records sounded like."
He goes on: "In several cases, we've been able to get a tape that was one
generation earlier than what we had. Of the 19 cuts, we have new and improved
audio sources on 14 of them."
And: "Just 15 months ago we located a tape that had gone terribly wrong (gotten
lost). It has better generation masters of seven of the tracks, including 'That's
All Right,' 'Good Rockin' Tonight,' 'I'm left...,' and 'Baby, Let's Play House.
We restored the end of 'I'm Left...,' which has gone bad for so many years; we
got the full-length fade out of 'Mystery Train' on there; and we got both 'I
Love You Because' and 'Harbor Lights' without the reverb that RCA always added
to them, because we were able to get hold of the real tapes."
"Technology has certainly improved in five years (since 'Sunrise'), but
it's really the time spent...we've had to take this outside normal
recording-studio scenarios, because we never could have paid the bill for the
restoration we've done. It's been done by three people with too much equipment
for sensible people to own, so...no studio costs. At a going rate of $250 an
hour, this would have been a million-dollar project; we've been working on it
for a year."
"I played it for (an RCA executive) who's ultra-critical, and even he said
it's like night and day when played against the versions of everything we've
ever put out before."
New liner notes were penned by Knox Phillips (Sam's son)....

NEW YORK -- At 11 a.m. today, in a midtown Manhattan music studio, a handful of record industry veterans will huddle around a reel of tape they say is an original master from the historic 1954 recording debut of Elvis Presley. Then, after a brief introduction, the tape will be chopped to pieces.
Thousands of pieces, if
all goes as planned. The owner of this tape intends to dice it into two-inch
bits, which will then be mounted on framed plaques and sold to fans for $495
apiece. It's being billed as a chance for Elvis lovers to own a sliver of one of
the most famous moments in pop history -- the songs recorded in Memphis's Sun
Studio by Presley under the eye of producer Sam Phillips. The Sun sessions are
widely considered the birth of rock.
"Exactly how many
we make is function of how many pieces of tape will withstand cutting,"
says Michael Esposito, president of Master Tape Collection, based in Bloomfield,
N.J. "The song 'That's Alright, Mama' runs 2:20, and the tape runs at 15
inches per second, so that piece of tape alone could allow us to produce 800 to
900 plaques."
Spluttering fans, take
note: Esposito says he has made top-quality digital copies of the music on the
tape. And he claims that the reel is deteriorating so quickly, it will be
unplayable in a matter of years. But the project has, nonetheless, earned him a
legion of new enemies. Message boards on Presley fan sites have been filled with
slashing posts by collectors who consider Master Tape's cut-and-mount concept an
outrage.
"Next they'll be
selling little bits of the Mona Lisa," huffed someone identified as Greg on
the elvis-collectors.com message board, "or maybe a slice of the U.S.
Constitution or the dead sea scrolls."
"If this is real,
I'm pretty sure that God made a commandment against doing this kind of thing!!"
fumed "elvis fan" on the same page.
If
this is real. The leading authority on Elvis's recording career has serious
doubts. Actually, that's putting it charitably. Ernst Jorgensen, the author of
"Elvis Day by Day" and the man who oversees the CD repackaging of
Presley's back catalogue for RCA, the King's label, heard the tape when Esposito
tried to sell it to RCA a few years ago. He passed, convinced that he was
listening to a copy of a master tape that RCA already owns.
There are also
questions raised by the physical appearance of the tape and the box it came in,
Jorgensen says. The tape that he saw has telltale markings of assorted edits,
suggesting it's a patchwork of tapes strung together, he says. As damning
evidence, Esposito's tape contains songs spanning the entire 16-month period of
the Sun sessions. All the other masters feature just a few days' or weeks' worth
of material, Jorgensen and other Presley experts maintain. Jorgensen believes
that what Esposito has comes from what he called a "safety copy" of
songs from "Golden Celebration," a 1984 reissue. "It's also in
poor taste," Jorgensen added. "Inherent in everything Elvis is greed.
It will haunt him forever."
Esposito
is convinced, however, that what he has is the genuine article, and he offered a
10-page "forensic report" that he says settles nearly every question
of the tape's provenance. Though the story includes what it calls "a
mystery," it won over Elvis Presley's estate, which sold Master Tape a
license allowing the company to use Presley's image to market its plaques.
"We're not making
any judgments about [the tape]," said Todd Morgan, a spokesman for the
estate, Elvis Presley Enterprises. But he later added: "All we can go by is
the research they presented, and it's convincing."
Also in Esposito's
corner is the man he hired to authenticate the tape, Tony Bongiovi, a producer
with 50 gold and platinum albums to his credit. On Friday, Bongiovi sat in Nola
Studios, where today's news conference is scheduled, and offered a listen. On
the tape, a take of "When It Rains, It Really Pours" breaks down and
you can hear Presley, guitarist Scotty Moore and Phillips trying to figure out
what went wrong.
"What happened?"
Presley asks.
Phillips offers more
directions, then Elvis chimes in again, addressing either Moore or bass player
Bill Black:
"Hey, you know
when you first hit bah-dah-dah . . . ya old boom, boom, boom, you just hold that
till you get the change." And a moment later: "All right, let's hit
it."
Bongiovi stops the tape
before the band tries "When It Rains" again. A small man with a
booming voice, he's overjoyed about eavesdropping on rock's prince as he fumbles
toward his throne.
"Here's Sam
Phillips talking to Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley!" he shouts.
Bongiovi says he spent
20 hours authenticating the tape, aided by sound engineer and owner of Nola, Jim
Czak. What Bongiovi found compelling was evidence that he was listening to
"unprocessed sound."
An element of the
unknown shrouds any account of the Sun session masters, which yielded a batch of
world-changing tracks, including "Good Rockin' Tonight" and "Mystery
Train." Presley was an 18-year-old truck driver when he began the
recordings in July 1954, and a year later he had enough momentum to catch the
attention of RCA, which paid $35,000 to Phillips to buy out Elvis's contract.
That sale included all
of Phillips's master tapes. He delivered 15, and RCA turned them into cash right
away. Before the label released its own string of hits with Presley, starting
with "Heartbreak Hotel," it rereleased his Sun material, which, with
the added heft of a national publicity campaign, rose higher than they had the
first time around.
According to Jorgensen,
RCA then stashed the masters in a warehouse in Indianapolis, near the company's
manufacturing plant. About nine of those tapes were destroyed in 1959 when
someone in upper management decided to save money on storage costs by tossing
out thousands of reels. They had copies, after all. Who cared?
"I talked to some
of the men who were at the plant back then," Jorgensen says. "I wanted
to cry when they told me about it. I couldn't bring myself to ask how they
destroyed them."
Esposito doesn't claim
to have one of the nine reels that were presumed to be destroyed. Instead, he
believes he owns a tape that Phillips didn't hand over to RCA, and which somehow
wound up in a warehouse along with a huge cache -- between 400 and 500 tapes --
that includes the work of other Sun stars, including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee
Lewis and Carl Perkins. Nobody knows how that trove got to the warehouse, he
says, but it was uncovered in 1992 when it was purchased by a couple at auction
-- sold off because the owner of the storage bin hadn't paid the rent. Esposito
won't say how much he spent for the tapes, which he purchased through a
middleman, but calls it "a substantial sum of money."
The Master Tape
forensic report states that Esposito called Phillips in July 2002 and told him
what the tape looked like. The color ("chocolate brown") and the brand
(Scotch) matched Phillips's memory of it, the report says. But Phillips never
heard or saw the tape because of his hectic travel schedule, the report says,
and last year he died.
Real or not, the tape
will test the legendary ardor of Presley fans. Esposito didn't take pre-orders,
so he has no sense of demand.
But Elvis isn't the
first 20th-century legend who has been shredded for dollars.

Catalog Audit Results in 15 New Certifications
WASHINGTON, January 8, 2004 - With a large crowd of fans gathering to celebrate
Elvis Presley’s birthday, RCA Records and BMG Strategic Marketing Group, both
part of BMG, with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced
at a ceremony on the grounds of Graceland Mansion this morning that Elvis
Presley now stands as the best selling solo artist in U.S. history.
"Elvis Presley, quite simply, is an American icon," said RIAA Chairman
and CEO Mitch Bainwol. “As such an important musical, historical and cultural
figure, we’re thrilled to be able to make this announcement. We will continue
to work closely with BMG to make sure that there will be more exciting news
about the Elvis Presley catalog in the near future," concluded Bainwol.
“It is incredibly gratifying to have the certifications to back up what many
have long held as an article of faith, that Elvis is the best selling solo
artist in U.S. history,” said Joe DiMuro, Executive Vice President, BMG
Strategic Marketing Group. “I’d like to thank the RIAA and our team who
worked tirelessly to complete this audit and help secure Elvis’ historic
achievement.”
In August 2002, it was announced that the Presley catalog finally passed the
previously elusive 100 million sales mark. And now during this recent audit, 15
titles were either being certified for the first time or upgraded from
previously audited sales levels, his overall album sales total climbed to 117.5
million.
In all, seven new Gold records were added to his overall tally including
“Almost In Love,” “C’mon Everybody,” “Double Dynamite,” “Elvis
Sings Hits From His Movies, Vol. 1,” “Frankie & Johnny,” “I Got
Lucky” and his 1956 release “Love Me Tender.” Four of these titles (“Almost
In Love,” “Double Dynamite,” “Elvis Sings Hits From His Movies, Vol.
1” and “Frankie & Johnny”) were also certified Platinum for sales in
excess of one million copies. There were four additional Platinum awards for
“Flaming Star,” “From Nashville To Memphis,” “Let’s Be Friends,”
and “Separate Ways.”
Additionally, four new multi-Platinum certifications included “Burning Love
and Hits From His Movies, Vol. 2” (two million), “The Top Ten Hits” (four
million), “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (three million) and "Elvis'
Christmas Album" which remains the best selling title in the Elvis Presley
catalog with certified sales of more than nine million copies.
Also, contributing to his overall sales total was the recently released “2nd
TO NONE,” a collection of Elvis Presley singles that follows up 2002’s
“ELV1S: 30 #1 HITS,” which was certified both Gold and Platinum in November
2003 for sales of more than one million copies.
In all, Elvis Presley has received 97 Gold Records, 55 of which have been
certified Platinum, and 25 have gone on to multi-Platinum status. His highest
certified album is "Elvis' Christmas Album" which has been certified
for the sale of more than seven million copies.
He has also received more Gold and Platinum singles than any artist in history
with 51 Gold singles, 27 of which have been certified Platinum with seven being
certified multi-Platinum.
Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman audit all certification requests for the RIAA’s
Gold and Platinum award program.

Many of our readers know very well the site '' Paul's Elvis Page '' and his '' Candid Central '' section. Unfortunately our good friend Paul Sweeney from Ottawa,Canada got problems with his server because he's exceeding the monthly traffic allowance, and the aforementioned section on this site is greatly responsible since this is a very popular part of Paul's wesbite.

He's working on a coffee table book book covering 1954-1955, with the regular photos/memorabilia and some new stuff. More importantly, it will "hopefully have a three CD set with everything Elvis ever recorded for Sun, from the worst sounding acetate ever - of the Louisiana Hayride - to all the Sun masters. It will be very limited, probably just 5,000 copies, a labor of love".

Elvis Presley is the all-time singles king in Britain, nearly a half-century after he first crashed into the pop chart here, according to a new list published Monday. Presley has appeared on 1,193 of the weekly charts since 1952, when British Hit Singles, a book published by Guinness World Records, began keeping records.
At No. 2 is Cliff Richard with 1,152 weeks in the charts, followed by The
Shadows at 771 weeks. The singles chart in Britain has varied in length over the
years. When Presley appeared for the first time in 1956 with "Heartbreak
Hotel," the British chart listed 30 records. In 1978, the year after
Presley died, the chart stabilized at its present length of the top 75
singles. The rest of the top 10 are: Elton John, Madonna, Diana Ross, Michael
Jackson, Rod Stewart, the Beatles and David Bowie.

Everyone's been talking about the recent discovery of a brand
new interview, albeit very short, recorded on August 9th 1975 at the Memphis
Liberty Bowl Stadium by radio broadcaster Harold Johnson. Elvis was at the
stadium enjoying a football game between the Memphis Southmen and the Charlotte
Hornets when the interview was conducted live on air.
Essential Elvis has acquired the exclusive and official rights to the
interview and a CD will be out within just a few days. The disc, entitled
Elvis Touchdown! includes several other football related interviews with Elvis,
and some unique on stage dialogue (the singing voice of Elvis does not appear on

EPE released a press-release on the celebration of the 50th
anniversary of Elvis first recording “That’s All Right Mama”. Part of the
celebrations are various releases.
CDs
First up is the release on March 23, BMG/RCA of “Elvis Ultimate Gospel”.
This single disc CD will contain the greatest hits from Elvis’ extensive
gospel recordings. Also in June, shortly before the 50th anniversary of That’s
All Right, BMG/RCA will release “Elvis at Sun”, a new, comprehensive
collection of Elvis Presley’s Sun Records recordings. Yesterday the follow up
to "ELV1S 30 #1 Hits" and "Elvis 2nd To None", titled "Anthology"
was also announced.
DVDs
In the summer, likely late June, EPE will release its highly anticipated, new
comprehensive DVD collections of the material from Elvis Presley’s 1968
television special Elvis and his 1973 television special Elvis: Aloha from
Hawaii, via Satellite. Both sets are to be distributed globally by BMG. Content
details will be announced soon on the official Elvis site. Both DVD sets will
contain all the previously released material plus previously unreleased material
all specially presented in newly re-edited and re-mastered form. In the case of
the 1968 special, so much footage was shot from which to assemble the original
TV show that the previously unreleased component of the ’68 TV special DVD
will be particularly significant.
Television Special
The 50th Anniversary year will crescendo with an as yet untitled, new Elvis
network special in development for airing in the fourth quarter. EPE is the
owner and executive producer of this project, which will be produced by the
acclaimed David Saltz. A more detailed announcement on this project will be
forthcoming.

The interview with Joey Kent ( owner of the Louisiana Hayride archives ) is now available for our readers. This is definitely a very interesting reading as you will certainly learn a few things there. Joey Kent and Frank Page are planning a second Hayride book that will focus on Elvis' last live performance at the Hayride on December 15, 1956. This is also very interesting to learn that they are hoping to include a CD containing the full concert from that night's performance.
Songs performed at the last Hayride performance were : "Heartbreak Hotel", "Long Tall Sally", "I Was The One", "Love Me Tender", "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me", "I Got A Woman", "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again", "Paralyzed", and "Hound Dog".
Don't miss it and go directly from here at the interview with Joey Kent.

The Belgian fanclub Elvis Matters announces the release of a
new book, titled "Memories - Sweetened thru the ages just like wine",
subtitled "On the road with Elvis & John Wilkinson". "Memories"
holds over a hundred rare illustrations and takes you back to the days when
Elvis filled showroom after showroom. The 160 page book brings back to life the
many memories of Elvis Presley's friend and rhythm guitarist John Wilkinson.
Author of the English book is Peter Verbruggen, who also wrote "Elvis -
King of Belgium".
For the release of this book, Elvismatters joined forces with the Danish fanclub
"Elvis Unlimited". The book is all but an encyclopedia. Instead, it's
a bundle of memories, as John Wilkinson remembers his years with Elvis. It's
illustrated with unique documents, news paper clippings and reviews.
First presentation of the book is on Saturday, January 10th 2004 during the
Belgian Birthday Party in Sint-Niklaas (near Antwerp). Guest of honor is, of
course, John Wilkinson himself. The second presentation of the book - in
presence of John - takes place on Saturday January 17th in Denmark, and on the
18th in Sweden.

"Elvis Sessions 3 will be out early next year. The information has finally reached the cut off stage and I think everyone will appreciate the reason for the extra time it took to get this project done. There are more than a few surprises, all of which have been supported. I understand the frustration of the many fans who want this book, but once it's out, it's out forever and I have only one chance to make that happen. And I want it to be my best chance. Jordan Ritchie announced on the FECC Forum the news that EP's Memphis Restaurant on Beale Street has closed for good. Here's the complete details written by Jordan.
'' It's with a very heavy heart to let you all know that as of today EP's Memphis Restaurant on Beale St. here in Memphis has closed for good. Just got off the phone with an EPE rep to confirm this. I can safely say that they did fantastic business during Elvis week, and the birthday week.. But the rest of the year business was very slow.. This is such a shame. It was a great hangout, a very cool place to be. Now it's closed forever. The problem I guess is that Memphians didn't appreciate, or enjoy it's vibrant ambience.Sorry to break the bad news. ''

"I would have given anything to design for Elvis..."
— Gianni Versace
To Elvis Presley, clothes were second in importance only to music. An avid
collector of garments, accessories, and costumes, many made just for him, Elvis
became was as much a fashion icon as a rock ‘n’ roll trendsetter. He loved
clothes and had an uncanny eye for what would shine on stage, and maintain his
sexy persona off stage. Elvis loved to be part of the process and often
conferred with his tailors, costumers, and accessory designers, working his
initials into their designs whenever possible! Featured in ELVIS FASHION- From
Memphis to Vegas are working sketches of costumes, and comments from favorite
designers like Nudie, the Rodeo Tailor, Vegas costumer-extraordinare Bill Belew,
50s Rat-Pack tailor Sy Devore, and the legendary Oscar-winning Edith Head, who
designed many of his film wardrobes. Also included is fascinating ephemera like
a record of his running tab at a Memphis jeweler, and invoices for clothing
described down to the minutest detail: “light-blue double-knit suit w/lattice
patterned jacket front in navy blue leather accented w/brass studs…lined in
patterned silk.”
Graceland gave author Julie Mundy unprecedented access to the Elvis Presley’s
costume archive and allowed her to select an incredible range of Elvis’s
famous jumpsuits, leather pants, embroidered and jeweled capes, and accessories
from hats to belts to custom boots. Mundy chronicles the development of Elvis’
taste, and his growth into a true fashion icon paralleled by his meteoric rise
to stardom. Multitudes of costumes from the Graceland collection were
photographed especially for this book, and will be enhanced by archival photos
of Elvis wearing them, both on stage and off.
Elvis’s velvety voice, smolderingly good looks, charisma, and personal style
all contributed to making him “The King of Rock ’n’ Roll.” Beloved by
millions, Elvis is known in every corner of the world and is one of the most
important and enduring figures ever in American popular culture.
A comprehensive look at the gorgeous clothes that were so much a part of what
made Elvis Elvis is long overdue. Stunningly designed, this book is as tasty a
package as Elvis was himself! An absolute must for Elvis Presley fans everywhere.

Scott said he didn't think much about the recording at the time, but it wasn't long before RCA heard about it and came calling. The record company put the song on the album "Elvis 2nd To None," which is scheduled for release on Oct. 7. The song was debuted Friday at Graceland, Presley's Memphis residence. Scott described the song as a rocker that tells the story of a carnival worker whose boss is constantly pressing him to work harder.
"I'm happy it's coming out," Scott said by telephone from New York. "I think the public should hear it because I think the public should hear everything this man does. This guy is in a class by himself."
Presley died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977.

A. I wasn't surprised that it would sell, but that we've sold 9 million worldwide now, that is a pleasant surprise. The company in general was very bullish about it. There was one guy who stood up and said, "We're going to sell 10 million of this." The rest of us looked at him and said, "I'm glad I didn't say that." He's eventually going to be proven right.
Q. Country Music magazine recently ran an interview with June Carter Cash in which she said Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had absolutely no idea what constituted good material or songs. Was he truly clueless or merely indifferent?
A. Parker was never there at the recording sessions. The only way he interfered - and it was a dramatic interference - was through the whole setup of Elvis music and publishing. . . . He fought to convince Elvis to only record songs from staff writers. Elvis was probably a little too nice on that issue, . . . well, not a little bit. The Colonel felt threatened by the great songwriters (Jerry) Leiber and (Mike) Stoller to the point where the Colonel made sure that the two great songs they'd written for "G.I. Blues" got kicked out of the movie.
Q. Was the Colonel an idiot?
A. I don't think he was an idiot, but he was unsympathetic to the feelings that people like you and I have about Elvis. He was all, all business. Where you can criticize the Colonel and Elvis was that it took them until 1968 to realize they had to do something else. They should have realized that in '64, '65. It was obvious at that time that each of those movie albums sold less than the one before. We would not have had to listen to "Frankie and Johnny" and "Harum Scarum" and "Easy Come, Easy Go."
Q. One of the problems you must have is that Elvis Presley recorded more horrendous junk than any other major recording artist - "He's Your Uncle, Not Your Dad," "Petunia the Gardener's Daughter"; we could go on and on. Do you just ignore that stuff?
A. We separate to a great extent between what is available for collectors and what is for the main marketplace. There is a major, major difference between Elvis or Sinatra from the time when you have artists who actually write their own material and thereby keep a consistent level of quality. There are several things that Frank Sinatra and Elvis have in common, but there are two things that are very, very important. One is that they both recorded "Old MacDonald." The second one is that they shouldn't have.
Q. What is it that made Elvis Presley a great singer? Was he a great singer?
A. The magic of Elvis Presley is that he had a very nice voice, but he didn't have the biggest voice in the world. Roy Hamilton had a bigger voice. Opera singers, obviously, have bigger voices. The uniqueness of Elvis was to take a song and make it believable. The best example of that, to me, is "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" If you just read those lyrics off a piece of paper, you'd say anyone who does that lyric is going to die somewhere. That's so over the top as a lyric, but you actually believe him when he sings it, and I think that's the magic of it.

For
those of you that dig Elvis' best years, there's a great new booklet & CD
titled "Elvis: In The Eye Of The Storm". It focuses on the years 1953
- 1956, and it contains dozens of newspaper & magazine clippings from those
years, the majority of which has never been reproduced since their original
publication. This includes reviews, articles, magazine covers and advertisements
("A Red Hot Star is born on RCA Victor Records!").
The
booklet also contains revealing interviews with Elvis' musicians Scotty Moore
and D.J. Fontana, memories of fans who saw Elvis on stage in 1954 - '55, and
rare EP covers from Europe. The icing on the cake are many rare Elvis pics, both
color and b&w. Some of the highlights are a section on Audubon Drive (which
contains many unpublished private pics), and a couple of color pics from the
Elvis & Ed Sullivan press-conference.
The enclosed CD contains several rare interviews from 1955 and '56, including, for the first time, the complete unedited 'TV Guide' interview from August 1956 - 28+ minutes!! This complete interview is fascinating to listen to, and it's quite clear that Elvis is getting increasingly annoyed with the questions!
Also
included are 10 Elvis mystery tracks from the Sun years, including 'Little Mama',
'Satisfied', 'We're Getting Closer To Being Apart', 'Uncle Pen' and 'Icecold
Love'. These tracks were recorded by Number Nine from London, who are regarded
by many as the best "early Elvis" sounding band. This great band has
toured with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana on several occasions. All tracks were
recorded on original Valve equipment from the fifties, and the band spent a
great deal of effort trying to figure out how Elvis would have performed these
titles. The result is a very authentic "Elvis 1955" sound - this is
really as close as it gets!
